I am currently putting together the packet for my husband to take to his interview (Nov. 6) and the first thing it says is to bring a copy of your NVC interview letter. Is that just the email? or do they send us some fancy one in the mail?

Andddd regarding birth certificates, do I need to include mine? I am the petitioner but I don't think I have showed them that at all, just my passport.  And if I did it was just a photocopy

Also my husband is going to the doctor in Surrey, BC tomorrow. I will post how it went after!

The interview letter is the one that they emailed to you with the date.  No need for your birth certificate if you are the petitioner, just his.

So we have an immigration lawyer and she said bring EVERYTHING you submitted, although she seemed to indicate copies were ok. But if I was you I’d bring the original if you can.

funny you ask that because my wife just replaced hers so we can bring a fresh copy that wasn’t beat up...I don’t want them to have one reason to say no in Montreal

and im under the impression that a printed out copy of the email letter will work

Also, please post here your embassy appointment details, tips, and pointers. The more we all share the better prepared we all are.

and good luck too!

Just finishing my immigration physical and I have to say it’s very straightforward with dr Mascarenhas in Toronto, and he was very pleasant as well. Just have your immunizations up to date and it’s quick. I was in an out of the office in 1/2 hour or so and that included waiting in the waiting room for 10-15 mins.

Just saying

Office visit, and the chest X-ray were fairly quick, but the lab had about a 30-40 minute wait. Once they do take you it’s very quick. From the time I parked my car until the time I left it was just under 2 hours.

Just had my medical exam with Dr. Cheema in Surrey, BC. Wonderful staff, and Dr. Cheema was incredibly professional and kind. I had to get immunizations and the staff went out of the way to tell me where I could get them cheaper. Highly suggest doing the immunity test if you have time before your exam (because of issues with my medical card I was not able).

the whole process took 3 hours including the wait times for blood work and X-ray, but it was all good and the staff was really nice everywhere I went.

What's the immunity test and what does it do?

It’s blood work that shows what your immunities are - you can go to your GP or a walk-in clinic and ask them to do “titers” for the vaccinations that are required by the visa medical.  If the titer shows an immunity, no booster shot needed.

Very helpful if you're like me and you don’t have an immunization record on file!

So if you don't have an immunization record (I don't), you take the test at a regular GP and bring the results to your medical, and the doctor will accept the results of that exam?

The way I did it was I printed off the checklist that the doc had on his website, took it to a doc at a walk-in clinic and asked them to do the titers.  I returned after the results were in (about a week) and got the booster I needed and the flu shot.  The doc completed and signed the form from the immigration doc’s website.  I took a copy of the titers and also the completed, signed form to the immigration doc.  The immigration doc I saw (in Toronto) had a specific form for the GP to complete, but I don’t know if all docs have these.

The form cost $25 to have completed, but the titers were covered under the provincial health care.

I also finished my binder for the interview this week. Some people prefer having an accordion file folder, but I wanted more labels.

in each divider is the original document and a clear colour copy.

I just wanted to share because I wasn’t able to find many examples of what others were doing for their binders. Also don’t let my extra ness stress anyone out 😂

im an admin assistant at work so my job is to organize.

Hello, can you provide the name of the doc and/or website with the checklist? I'd like to provide to my spouse to do the same in advance. thanks!

Also kind of random question, but are any of you guys going to be immigrating with pets?

I've been trying all day to get more info on bringing my small dog with me on the plane ride to California (hoping of course, all goes well at the interview!) and I think he might be JUST an inch too tall to fit... But I'm not sure. I keep reading contradicting reviews of bringing your pet via Air Canada or WestJet. Other option would be shipping him via Cargo but I worry about him getting stressed and stuff. :(

Hi Arellah !

yes, I'll be traveling with my small dog as well, we are going to Texas. We've flown before from Alabama to Alberta. All you need to make sure is that your flights & connecting flights have seat accommodations for your dog. By that I mean some seating areas have more feet room...We have made the mistake of having my first flight (Delta) accommodate, but my connecting flight(AirCanada) seat didn't accommodate my dog... so my husband had to purchase another seat ticket so I can travel back to Alberta safely. I've read as long as your doggy is under 20 lbs and the dimensions of your pet carrier is of airline standards it should be okay. I read somewhere less than 18" x 11" x 11" for soft carriers. Be sure to call your airlines to confirm & make sure your pet is fit to fly with vet checkup before your flight.

example: 8 lbs (Pomeranian)

pet carrier:  15” L x 10” W x 8.5” H(brand: Sherpa)

hope this helps!
