When we got the RFE we did not think that we would be able to provide the specific documents in the format that USCIS requested. But, my fiance was persistent. She just arrived home (a few hours ago) from the hospital where her husband died 20+ years ago, a round-trip of more than 5000 km (3100 miles). Her efforts were successful. She will bring her documents to a Chinese notary on Monday. It will take approximately 1 week for them to be notarized and translated to English.

Everything is looking good. I think that I will have a copy/image of the notarized/translated documents on May 20th or 21st....  (The deadline to reply to the RFE is in the middle of June. So, even if it takes a few days longer to get the 10+ pages notarized and translated we will make the deadline.)

Just sent the RFE back. They asked for proof of her husband's death (close to 25 years ago). Her copies of the documents were lost during a move approx. 20 years ago.

She just returned from a trip to the hospital where he died. They issued a four-page summary of his hospital records including a record of his death.  I included a certified translation along with that summary and death record. (I also included a copy and translation of her Hukou (household register) dated approx. 3 years after his death that states she is widowed.)

Hopefully, that will work.
