The processing times are off at the moment, supposedly I should've been approved a week or so ago. (Of course many variables change this).

Nothing guarantees or is accurate for an approval. Of course, I am not telling you anything new as you have been pretty active here and read the post each day.

Oh of course, I was just adding to your point that even though we have the "estimated' processing based on Embassy, filling dates and locations, etc., it should definitely not be relied on

Yeah, the whole system could be a lot better. But their processing times are 6-8 months so we will just have to sit tight.

As I said yesterday, just pay the $ and book another flight over in between. I'm planning to travel for 6 weeks in Early May - just tired of the missing xD

I'd sure like to know where it says that USCIS promised something. I've been here 5 years and I haven't once been able to answer that question and neither has any of the other long term members. So to moan constantly about a process when their were no indication as to when you will receive your approval, boggles my mind.

You came around to this thinking about a month or so and you have adjusted your expectations hence you are not disappointed. I commend you for that.

Oh I just gave up with the worrying, and stopped caring so much.

I think when we first applied it was around May time we were expecting approval, but obviously the VJ processing comes down and with that the excitement level rises.

Taking a step back and seeing it from the USCIS side makes it easier. They are dealing with hundreds of thousands of cases every day and we're just a number to them. It will come when it comes.

Now I just try to help other users see that they haven't been forgotten about and left behind as I once worried.

Approaching this as a realist will make the journey that much more palpable.

I think you can be both a realist and raise/acknowledge process issues.  I think back to when I renewed by passport last year, I got a text/e-mail when they received my package, a text/email when they started processing it, a text/email when it was all set & shipped. If the Dept of State has something set up that gives regular & accurate updates to its customers, don't see why USCIS couldn't do the same.  I don't think it's necessary the amount of time that bothers people, it's mostly being in the dark about what step in the process they are it.  Getting notified at the start and then being completely in the dark until the very last step is tough.  If the process was set up with a few different milestones, and people could get easy visibility to where they stood (assuming USCIS actually updated their website), I think that would go a long way to alleviate some anxiety.   You can throw your hands up and just say the process is what it is and just accept it, but since I work in process & process improvement, I guess I'm just trained to have that not sit well with me.

I agree.

Even if I did not understand what each 'milestone' was/meant, seeing that something was being done/accomplished would improve the experience.

Yup, I assume there are some general "steps" the USCIS officers follow, if it was something basic like:

1. Begin processing (means someone has actually finally opened your packet)

2. Background check

3. Final review & processing

4. Approval/RFE

At least then you'd have a better sense of how it was moving along.
