When the case arrives at the embassy (shows Ready status on the CEAC tracker) you will have to fill out and submit the DS-160, and then pay the fee associated with that form, which I think is like $260.  All this is done online.  But you don't pay anything to NVC.

I am so confused by this post...

I would like some clarification.  As i understand things, there is no CEAC tracker...What do you mean by this?  If you get to this point then that means you already have your Case number and submitted your DS-160.  If you submitted your DS-160 after getting your case number...is the fee for the DS-160 (NONimmigrant visa) not $165?

Someone please correct me...?

Sincerly,

Alfredo and Denisse

The CEAC tracker I'm referring to is here: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx   You input the case number that NVC gives you, and the tracker allows you to see the status of your case -- 'At NVC' 'In Transit', etc.

Once you have your NVC case number you can fill out the DS-160, and you have to pay the fee.  The fee may vary with the different embassies, I'm not sure.  The instruction letter from the Costa Rica embassy where we will be filing states a cost of $265, that's where I got that figure from.

I think the point at which you are allowed to schedule your interview varies according to the embassy as well, but using Costa Rica as an example, you can schedule your interview once you have gathered all your documents and filled out and paid the DS-160.  You need the receipt number from the payment to be able to schedule your interview.

This is all as far as I understand based on research I've conducted/things I've read here, so if I am mistaken, feel free to correct me, folks.

There is no fee for the DS-160. You are confusing that with the application fee (which is pays for the interview). This is straight from your P3 that you will get from your Embassy.

SECOND: Fill-out a DS-160 application (available at https://ceac.state.gov/qenniv/) for each applicant. Applicants should verify that all answers are correct, especially if someone other than the applicant completed the application. Please print out and bring the DS-160 confirmation sheet to your interview.

THIRD: Pay the application fee and schedule your interview at https://ais.usvisa-info.eom/en-co/iv/information/k visa. NOTE: You must schedule two appointments through this online system - (1) at an Applicant Service Center for fingerprinting and (2) at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota for your consular interview. (If you have questions about how to use this website, please follow the instructions on page 3.)

If you go back 5-8 pages and read what others have posted you see that your wasting your time with all the calling business. Between now and 11/8 approvals will trickle in. Around 11/8-12 the flood gates open for case number assignments. Two days later and if your case has been assigned a number it will leave for your Embassy. This has been going on for 3 months now.

Still no case number here either.

It sucks because I know a girl from the same date (9th) and a girl from the 16th who already got their case numbers, and mine is not even at NVC yet.

Whyyyyyy

It might be at nvc just still in the box

YMMV
