Greenbaum already started the November thread. Might be best to start there as a lot of people will be going through same process in Nov and easy for you to compare notes there rather than here...however there are some good pages of notes as long as you don’t mind reading them all

Do you have a link by chance? I tried searching several keywords before asking that and either didn't find it or overlooked it. Thanks!

Hey guys! I'm here... I have a question, how much does it usually take for a case to be assigned a number? Does it really take up to 8 weeks?

that's NVC's standard response. It's considered their safe zone time frame. But more than likely it will not take that long. Te entire K1 Process is a game of guess-estimates. Hang in there...

Advice: KEEP BUSY!!

For what it's worth, I called at about 11AM Eastern time and was on hold for perhaps five minutes. It wasn't a big deal. Which is a relief given how hard it is for this nightowl to make that call at 7AM sharp!

So, what does this mean:

I haven't received any instructions from NVC. Should I have? I thought they didn't interact with K-1 people at all apart from assigning a case number.

Hey, guys!
Got another update. (rather quickly eh?). Case is in Vilnius, LTU, according to DHL, and is on hold, most likely embassy goes to pick em up, or has specific delivery dates. Waiting for that magical "Ready" now!

If you went over the last pages in this thread, there were atleast 5 people asking about this.
Second NEVER PUT YOUR CASE NUMBER ONLINE
Third, none of you do anything at this point, this is just a generic response to immigrant visa, which Fiance technically isn't.

I had called last Friday and they hadn't received my case yet, and when I called yesterday (Wednesday) they had assigned the case number.  So within 3 working days they received the case and assigned the number.  If they have your case already I would expect you to get a number within the next 3 days or so.

We have a case number! I was honestly surprised since it's been less than two weeks.

This is what really frustrates me about this process! No consistency and no fairness!

I'm really happy you have your case number but its terribly frustrating when some of us here are waiting a month for the same thing to happen!

lol, the entire process is not first come first serve. Sometimes those lucky few get processed before older ones. Hang in there. It still seems to be a fairly manual process.
