Wait 10 business days from NOA2 before calling NVC to get a case number. Emailing for updates keeps you off the phone. Google askNVC.

Thanks but that doesn’t answer my questions. If it takes 2 weeks to get to NVC and another 2-3 to assign a case number (as you said in a previous post) then why would I call after ten business days to ask for a case number? Something doesn’t make sense there.

can you please tell me what is P3?

The P3 letter, known as the Packet 3 letter is a letter address to the beneficiary with the details of their upcoming interview. Some items of interest are what documents are required and from where do you get them. When and where the medical is to be completed. Items such as this are outlined in the P3 letter. This letter is sent to the beneficiary usually by email. If one is not received then you should contact the Embassy will be adjudicating the case. The letter is normally sent to the beneficiary once the case file has been received by the Embassy and the case has been set to "ready" condition at ceac.state.gov.

I have advance copies from most Embassy's so I share those with others here on the thread. Unfortunately I do not have one for your Embassy. If and when you receive a P3 letter from your Embassy and if you would be so kind as to share it with me I would use it to help others who come behind you.

I hope this explanation has helped you.

Firstly, so You could track your case and prepare accordingly for upcoming interview and medical. Greenbaum usually gives P3 for most countries upfront so you could start getting ready

secondly, some embassies allow to get medical done with just NVC case number, so you could save time

thirdly, you can technically, fill out DS-160 form while waiting.
That's just my view. I got mine so i could track the case and give heads up for my fiance when to start to do what, for example when it will say "In transit", that'll tell that it was sent out to embassy and it's on it's way. I can send her affidavit of support paperwork, while she can fill out DS-160 and wait for P3 to see what else is needed to waste as little time as possible.
There are some benefits as you see.

Clearly my question does not make sense. What I’m asking is that you all keep saying it’s 2 weeks for the case to get to NVC and then 2-3 weeks for them to assign a case number. So how on earth can you get a case number in two weeks? Wouldn’t it be 4-5 weeks according to what you are saying is the timeline?

Once nvc receives ur case. It takes 1 to 2 days for them to issue a nvc number. Then for the next week or 2 they are inputting ur info into the system and doing a few checks of there own.

noa1 date is actually they date on ur hard copy. Sadly if u reach the magical 220 day u must wait till 225 to contact Uscis. They use what the new site says. Even if ur paper says X date.

They added 5 days onto everyone’s accepted on NOA1

I got it in less than two weeks. It varies greatly from case to case. Some take less to be processed, some take more. My case was received 15th, next evening i had my case number. People whose cases were received earlier, still don't have case number's. There is a way they process it, but in the end, it's case by case basis. They do background checks etc, there is higher chances that name "john smith" will throw a hit on their system, because there are so many people with this name. While some, for example eastern europe, with unsual and unique names, will go through quickly, cause it won't trigger any red flags in background checks. That's one of many reasons, that i could think of from the top of my head. I'm sure someone will shed more light in that.

Ah thank you. That makes sense! So even after the case number is assigned it’s probably 4-ish weeks until it gets to the embassy?

1-3weeks as per NVC's officer i spoke to.
And yes, as Greenbaum explained previously, they do it multiple times. USCIS, NVC and then I BELIEVE (not sure 100%), embassy.

Hey guys!!!!

So, a couple of questions:

1. When should I start counting the 10 days from the approval or once I got the letter?

2. Where can I check if I got a case number? Or do I have to call/send and email?

3. Do you have any idea if I can go ahead and get my medical examinations eventhough I still don't have my NVC case number?

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, and I'm so sorry if my questions are stupid or have been already answered multiple times. This process is very tedious and I like having information that this process doesn't really provide unless you are here reading all the info!

Hi,

Will try to do my best to answer questions, but in no means i'm expert or working for USCIS, so maybe who has more experience will correct me, where i'm wrong, but i'll do my best.
1. From the approval. The NOA2 date.

2. Call NVC at (603) 334-0700. Have your USCIS case number, and your fiance's name and birth date.

3. i highly doubt it, especially without NVC number, which is more important at embassy stage than USCIS case number. Just wait it out until you get at least NVC case number, and ask your fiance to call embassy. Mine did that and they told her to wait until she gets the P3 from embassy.

No questions are stupid, just a little research prior asking is saving time for everybody!
