I've often seen it suggested that the DS-160 can be started after the NVC issues the case number.

We've finished filling out the DS-160, except for signing it.

I have not seen anywhere that specifically requests the case number.  The closest thing is a field that requests "Application Receipt/Petition Number".

Is there any reason to use the Case Number here instead of the Receipt Number?

Is it really important to wait for the case number before filling out the DS-160?  Why?

Does anyone have specific information about what happens with the 134 documents at the embassy? What is their process and security? Can a cosponsor send documents directly to the embassy? Asking for the reassurance of my cosponsor in a fiance visa case. Thank you in advance for any advisement.

No it cannot be sent directly to the embassy as that is a sure way of getting it misplaced. They can put in an envelope and seal it and have the beneficiary deliver to the CO if indeed it's needed. Some embassies ask and others don't. If it isn't used the beneficiary can destroy it by shredding (she should be there when it is shredded) or if they want her to bring it long with her to return to them in the unopened envelope that might give them piece of mind. I haven't heard of anyone having any problems but I do understand their concern.

We've finished filling out the DS-160, except for signing it. Be sure the beneficiary "signs" the document. Details are in the DS-160 instructions.

I have not seen anywhere that specifically requests the case number.  The closest thing is a field that requests "Application Receipt/Petition Number". You use the WAC# in that location.

Is there any reason to use the Case Number here instead of the Receipt Number? I've always seen it recommended to use the WAC# and those that do report that isn't a problem at the interview because of that item.

Is it really important to wait for the case number before filling out the DS-160?  Why? No it's not important.

Long time lurker and first time poster.. Such a great community here! We got out NOA2 on 10/29/18. I called the NVC around 7am PST and they said that they received it on 11/14/18 but no case number assigned yet.. I was also told that it could be up to 8 weeks before a case number could be assigned. Should I call again later today to check?

Hi greenbaum. Can u redirect me to nvc usem manila forum?

I am looking for the right time to schedule the interview and medical.

We already got the nvc case number today and says its “at nvc”. Some says we have to wait for nvc “ready” before we move some says we can already schedule the interview or medical just make a week or two allowance on the date so as it will be done after nvc is at “ready” status.
