this is probably a stupid question:bonk: Calling all female petitioners!! did you ladies use your new last name on the AOS form? (before changing it on other documents: SS/DL/bank account, passport, etc)

I know i can use my maiden name, but just curious since we are technically married when our spouse files....

Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview: 1/16/19

Yes. If you want to change your name you will apply for AOS in your married name.

If you apply for AOS in your maiden name your GC will come in your maiden name and if you want to apply to change it then it will cost half a grand.

I mailed mines oct 17 and uscis recvd Oct 19 as of today havent received notice or text or emails the check hasnt been cashed neither should i contact them?

No, I don’t think that’s necessary at this moment. My NOA sates:

Received date - Oct. 12

Notice date - Oct. 18

USCIS might have received the package earlier than Oct. 16.

And I received the texts on Oct. 19.

Since I have sent out my package 8 days earlier than your date of submission, you have to wait a bit more.

Hi, @Sweethj! It took 10 days for me to receive texts from USCIS after submission. No email received until today. But I did receive the NOAs through mail after 5 more days. You might hear from them really soon.🙂

That's good to know for the female applicants.  I'm actually the female petitioner, the USC.

I just want to know if on i-485 part 5, question 4a, i am putting my name there, should I use my husband's last name or my maiden name. I am also filling out the i-864 and i need to know which last name everyone's using. I do plan to change to my husband's last name after we file.

IF you're going to change your name, do everything in your married name now.

All these forms also have a space for "maiden" or "other used" names so you're covered

I am also filling out the i-864 and i need to know which last name everyone's using. Your new married name. Do not worry about having supporting documents in your maiden name. They will be superceded by providing a copy of your marriage certificate. I do plan to change to my husband's last name after we file. The marriage certificate alone certifies that you may elect to go by his last name. The moment you received the marriage certificate you were able to assume that name. Yes you will have to change your name on documents but essentially you name was already "changed" the moment you married so should you decide to go by your husband's name.

PS why the heck does my phone autocorrect to "husbands" when I have always typed "husband's"?

Who has "husbands" (plural)? Geesh!

 no problem, it's understandable! reading and answering posts all day long can get us confused at times. Thanks for your responses either way!

Hello guys ! I have a question. Yesterday I recieved a rejected in the mail for the I-765 incorrect fee with NOA October 19 but they cashed the check October 23. Do you think first time the check could not be cashed? I called them today but they just said wait If you receive the other NOA

Happens fairly regularly it seems like. Just wait for your NOA from you 485 and send it back in with your 765.
