Is this country wide law or just in Davao City area?

Seems pretty stupid to me

When did this silly rule go into effect?

This has been in effect for a little bit now. It is a city wide law.

Anyone who has seen the damage no helmet, shorts and flip flops can do when in a bike crash fully supports this.

But if you want to end up as mutilated flesh and bone on a street, do as you will. Cant fix stupid.

I have been riding my motorbike since 2011 in Philippines.  We are not required to wear helmets in Texas, and as far as the Philippines goes. You can drink and drive no biggie,  Children can buy beer or alcohol as long as they have some pesos.

I don't need no government to tell me what I can wear or not wear when I am riding, This is as stupid as the speed limits zone Duterte imposed in Davao City area back when he was mayor

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

When in Rome ...

Well they changed all the rules:

Back in 2011 I decided I would buy a motorbike to explore with. I went to Davao City and at the time it took one month to get it registered before you could ride it and get issued plates,  plus at the time they enforced the Helmet law in Davao City Proper.

So I went to city about 40 km south called Digos City, which is part  of Davao City region and was able to buy a motorbike at a Honda Dealership and ride it out the door with paper tags, and they didn't enforce the Helmet law in that city.

I am ok with the Helmet rule, but the jeans and having to wear shoes is idiotic.  Plus I am about to travel to Philippines soon and I only take carry on luggage, I have a size 13 shoe and usually just take two pairs of flip flops with me. One pair of shoes take up a lot space,  I don't know if I can find size 13 in Philippines.

City

My relative just moved to Davao City area last month.  He said the LTO pulled him over 6 asking about his clothing and shoes, this was in a city about 40 kilometers south of Davao City called Digos City.

He said he has read this rules is being enforced in Manila and Cebu as well.

Get away from these 3 cities and it appears as if they don't enforce this law/rule.

I got an update yesterday, I finally talked to him for about and hour.

He said you can wear sweatpants or anything as long as your legs are covered, I have some water shoes that will work in place of regular tennis shoes or rubber shoes as they like to call them.

He said you can find size 13 shoes at Payless Shoes in the mall, but the issue is they are not wide.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am outside Davao City in a fairly large city.  Everyone wears a helmet here, I wear shorts and my flip flops.  Fine for sandals is only 500 pesos.  I took pic of my entry stamp and a copy of my US Driver License just in case.

I think wearing shorts is ok when operating a motorbike, not sure on that one.  If I go to Davao City I will wears shoes there, lots of inspection points checking ID's and other things in Davao City proper area.

I am going to try to get a Philippines Driver License this trip.
