Hi, If a person comes from another country with an immigrant visa and there is no one to travel with that person and that person speaks no English. How can a relative outside the security check point come in to meet the immigrant and serve as support for translation and company during border security check in and customs. Do airlines provide a translation service and are the airline employees willing to wait along the proceeds if they do?  I know that being an international entrance the easiest way is for the family member to take a plane fly and meet with the immigrant then come back together but mainly my question is that is there another way in a international airport? asking for a special permit to go international with a passport. ? any ideas or experiences?  thanks.

To my knowledge there is no such 'special permit' to enter an airport security/immigration area period.

As for interpreters, as long as it is not a "rare" or extremely unique foreign language, generally someone there could interpret for them.

As it looks like it's Spanish, as relating to your country as Honduras, Spanish is so common in the US there definately will be several people available I'm sure. It may cause a small delay perhaps for them to become available; but there is definately someone at any international airport available.

My husband is Honduran and though he had studied English, he pretended to know zero, as he feared he’d misunderstand a key word and answer a question wrong.

Flying into Houston and Dallas means plenty of Spanish speakers on hand.  Miami and Ft Lauderdale, even more.  As mentioned above, Spanish speaker are available at most POE’s.

As far as him flying in, there was a translator for a couple of questions, but he didn’t find it too difficult.

He had been scared because friends who came on tourist visas told him stories about how they got grilled at customs.  From that perspective, immigration visas are much easier than tourist visas.

No one can enter the POE to help. However, do not worry at all. CBP do not ask trick questions for immigrant visa holder. Some POE allow a translator to help if they are available.

You should prepare the passport with visa, the sealed documents from the Embassy, and the customs declaration which was provided on flight before arriving the US.

When you meet the CBP,  just show them all 3 documents as above. They will check and only ask:

- Who is your petitioner?

- Where do you live? Or where do you want your green card will being sent?

That's all. They will fill the paperwork, ask you to check fingerprints, look into the camera for taking photos, then they stamped the passport and Welcome to America.
