For those who contacted the CIS Ombudsman, how long did it take for the Ombudsman to respond to your inquiry? Do I need to reach out to the Ombudsman's office after sometime?

You gotta know a few things.

  1. Ombudsman has 90 days to 120 days to respond to your query.
  2. You will be reached out when they request info on your case with USCIS and when they get a reply from USCIS
  3. Ombudsman was affected by the shutdown last year.

Which brings us to:

  1. That 90-120 days is bull. You can call the number and ask for the backlog and they will say November 2018 most likely (I asked 3 weeks ago and it was October 2018)
  2. The reaching out will be generic update like case updates from USCIS site. Nothing specific. But it usually means, an associate is assigned to your case. Doesn't mean they are working on it right away.

I have kept mine open and not informed them that I got approval incase I need them to prod if they sent it to NVC or not.

how? where is old myUSCIS

OLD: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/displayLogon.do

New: https://my.uscis.gov/account/applicant

Different credentials with both. Old one has a username that you create, the new one uses your email as username and has 2FA.

You can bookmark following link and replace CASENUMBER with your receipt/case number to take you directly to your case. Good for sending it to restless spouse or annoying in-laws.

"restless spouse or annoying in-laws" - haha, I laughed out so loud on this one.

I'll be honest, I'm actually more restless than my immigrating wife. But you know we all tell ourselves lies.

I got an approval mail from USCIS one month after we sent the upgrade request along with copy of certificate of naturalization. I believe that's mostly because my priority date is all the way back in 2017.  It took exactly 3 months since then for USCIS to transfer my case to NVC. Exactly one month since then for case complete.

Good for you. Mine is Oct 15, 2018 so maybe it will be soon. Hopefully before this year ends.

My case history just updated stating that I had requested an address change, but I never did. Did this happen with any of you guys?

Maybe you are about to be deported?

kidding, that is strange, would call them asap or wait to see if u actually received the written notice.

or to give you false sense of hope, someone fat fingered and selected address change instead of approved.

If you go uscis.gov, there is file online on the left top side but I like the newer one. You dont have to go back and forth.

I recently inquired about my case on 8/12. I know its been 5 days but is there a possibility they will approved it since I made an inquiry?

Finally, my case was approved today.

Told you it was likely an error and they fat fingered Address Change instead of Approved.
