Hey everyone!

My goodness it's been a long time since I was here. Y'all helped me get through one of the most stressful period I've ever gone through back when I was filing for J1 Visa.

I see this question asked a lot, but I'm still confused and appreciate any help you folks can offer.

I'm a Canadian citizen, entered the US on a J1 Fiance Visa.

Question on the GC renewal forms are:

Part 3. 1) Location where you applied for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status.

Which part of that question applies to me?  The immigrant visa (because I started with a J1) or the adjustment of status (because I applied for a green card after I was married and living in the US)?

Any other original J1 visa holders who are familiar with how to fill this out?

The second part. The J-1 is a non-immigrant visa. You did AOS.

From the instructions, https://www.uscis.gov/system/files_force/files/form/i-90instr.pdf?download=1:

Quote

Part 3. Processing Information

Item Number 1. Location where you applied for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status. List the location of the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Consulate, or USCIS office where you filed your application for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status.

Item Number 2. Location where your immigrant visa was issued or USCIS office where you were granted adjustment of status. List the location of the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Consulate, or USCIS office where you were issued an immigrant visa or granted lawful permanent resident status.

Item Numbers 3.a and 3.a.1. Complete Item Numbers 3.a. and 3.a.1. if you entered the United States with an immigrant visa. If you entered the United States with an immigrant visa, you must list your destination in the United States at time of admission and provide the city or town and state of the POE where you were admitted to the United States. Please note that some cities have several POEs. Indicate the type of POE where you were admitted to the United States, such as an airport, bridge, or tunnel. If you were granted adjustment of status at a USCIS office in the United States, proceed to Item Number 4.

Oh, i just noticed your typo. The fiance visa is the K-1, not J-1 (exchange visitor visa). The K-1 is also a non-immigrant visa. The advice above still stands; USCIS is asking where you filed for AOS.

Thanks TM92!

I'll probably file online once I'm within the 6 month window, but right now I just have the printed form. I was reviewing it to see what would be needed when it was time to renew.

Weird, I'm certain I came into the US on a J1 visa, but either way, it was a fiance visa and I didn't realize that was considered "non-immigrant". Your response is helpful.  Thank you!!

When does your GC expire (curious because your VJ profile says you joined in 2012; also most K-1's go through Removal of Conditions)?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

But OP is not going through ROC. OP already received 10 year GC in 2010.
