   Historians haven't changed the story. It's not usually the authors who choose to leave the information out. Why school textbooks started getting edited or publishers started getting told to leave out certain information is a better question. 

 

  I understand maybe real history is a bit much for grade school kids. Eventually though, when it becomes so superficial that it's not really history anymore, it's probably worse than pointless. Kids would be better off with an extra PE class or something.

Oh well, he did what everyone at the time did.  Travel and conquer.  He was a hero to some, whether he landed in the US or the DR.
