Ghana CR1

Hello everyone,

i will be flying out to marry my fiancé soon and i have a few questions. This will be my fifth visit over three years and we’ve been to other countries together. We’re around the same age and same religion. No red flags to me!

My only issue is that I will be the only one going to Ghana, meaning my wedding pictures won’t show any of my family members present. My family is unable to change their work schedules and my mom can’t do long flights. It’s also really expensive! Can we be denied because my family wasn’t there?

Were just doing a court wedding while wearing traditional attire and then going out to dinner afterwards. Later, We’re planning a vow renewal as soon as he arrives to the U.S., God willing, for my family to participate in the ceremony. Do we need to explain this in a letter? My sister have been to Ghana with me twice along with two of my best friends. But this time, I’ll be going alone.

I’m just nervous about going through all this just for the embassy to deny us because my family wasn’t present at the wedding ceremony. K1 isn’t an option for us anymore. Has anyone ever been through this before and successfully made it? Any tips and advice are welcomed ❤️🙂

Well not sure about your case since it is Ghana and a high fraud country. But to give you a comparison - I was in the US for "only" half a year and married my wife without a church ceremony. Only my stepkids were present and neither parents or siblings of us. I bought the ring actually even after the wedding. We had no classical wedding dress etc. I just told my parents afterwards that I married. It was a marriage/wedding out of love and not to impress someone. USCIS approved it without problems. So i think the actual ceremony etc isn't important. But i would and we did write a letter explaining every thing. How you met, when how often and what led to the wedding etc.

Definately will need some personal insight from other users from Ghana as it is a tough embassy and they look at local traditions/customs heavily. So as to marriage especially, the wedding itself can be a huge factor as to how it was done, who was there, ect.

We were married at the counsel and had a dinner of about 50 people afterward. I came to marry my husband alone...no family.....December will be trip #3......Since no family came....I have screenshots of my husband conversing with my mother, father, grandparents, uncles, friends and brothers. I think you will be ok.....I seen several approvals from Ghana without family members present....Evidence, family time, and visits are key with Ghana and ensuring ur hubby is prepared at the interview.

I also had my mother write a affidavit of support letter stating that a wedding will also be planned in the United States

Nobody expects your family to travel to Ghana.  Focus on evidence of time spent together in person.
