Hi

I am 27 years old , single and working in india as chartered accountants and I m  going for group visa interview along with parents for b2 visa application.

I have mentioned 3 months as length of stay in ds160.

I heard it helps if I tell short time period in USA as length of stay in interview to visa officer.

Please suggest if I can answer 45 days as length of stay in USA to visa officer during interview?

(My brother is in USA on h1b and is sponsoring the trip for three of us)

Yes, be honest with a CO at all times.

Nobody can sponsor a tourist visa. You will be issued or denied the visa on your merits alone. They can pay for the trip, but that is asked on the DS-160 already anyway.

"Note: Visa applicants must qualify on the basis of the applicant's residence and ties abroad, rather than assurances from U.S. family and friends. A letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support is not needed to apply for a visitor visa. If you choose to bring a letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support to your interview, please remember it is not one of the factors used in determining whether to issue or deny the visa."

It’s NEVER a good idea to tell the visa officer what you think they want to hear instead of the truth. Plenty of people visit for 3 months or more. Getting caught in a lie during interview can potentially work against you ever getting a visa.

COs in India are aware applicants try whatever they think the CO wants to hear. That's basically lying just for a better chance at a visa. Be truthful about how long you really intend to visit. COs have decades/years' worth of interview experiences, and they're able to quickly judge an applicant's credibility.

There is NO sponsoring a US b2 visa. Your brother didn't sponsor you. You qualify on your own merits.
