My U.S.C. wife & I lived in Canada for years. My wife moved ahead of me to the U.S. to satisfy domicile requirements. It has been several months since we have been waiting and we are now waiting for an interview date. My wife had suffered from eating disorder as a teenager and after support from family and consulting a dietician, she recovered. Sometimes, due to stress her eating disorder surfaces and when we lived together, I was able to help her out and get it under control.

Now, since she has to live alone, her eating disorder has come back in full swing. I am encouraging her to see a therapist, and she has agreed. I am really worried about my wife and would like to know that if we can request an expedite for our interview so I can be with my wife soon and support her with her recovery. But since eating disorder is technically considered mental illness, we wonder if it could have any negative consequences on the visa approval?

If it helps, we are sure we can get a note from a therapist explaining how the stress is inducing and exacerbating her eating disorder.

Thank you.

It isn't a life threatening situation so I don't see them expediting your case for that reason.

You can request an expedite, sure. They may or may not approve it.

You mentioned interview, so I'm assuming the case is at NVC or the consulate. If so, you ask them. Each consulate tends to be more or less likely to accept expedites based on different criteria. If this was pre-NOA2 and at USCIS, you would still be free to request it, but I would predict almost no chance of approval. With the consulate, you may or may not have better luck.

There is not a negative consequence of requesting it. The petitioner's health - unless it were to pose a public charge concern to treat it - has no impact on approval or refusal of the visa.

@pushbrk  Any opinion?

Since you are Canadian, why not just go visit your wife for up to six months and then come back for the interview?

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
