Returning to Philippines before 2 year conditional green card expires

My wife and I are permanently moving to her home in the Philippines before her two year conditional green card expires. Are we required to inform UCIS of our decision or just let it expire?

If you're absolutely positively 100% certain she will not be returning and residing in the US PERMANENTLY (just want to emphasize this because a lot of people have come here to say they want to reside elsewhere only to reveal that they meant "for a certain amount of time", which is not the same as "permanently"), it's best to file I-407 (GC Abandonment) so they have an official record of it and won't start removal proceedings or anything like that.

Thank you very much for the information. No we don't plan on returning. We bought land on her island and will retire there

Uscis only care about who comming 😂. If you leaving and she doesnt care to EVER come back then you dont have to do anything. I always suggest she at least get a 10 years because of emergency reason. You might need to go back because you desperately need medical treatment from the US and she can not come with you. Healthcare system in Southeast Asia countries are not always the best.

Regardless of gren card, if one spends too much time abroad and/or establishes residence outside the US, re-entry may be difficult.
