Transferring case to another embassy

My case is still currently at NVC and they assigned my case to Tokyo US Embassy. My Fiance would have to fly there just for the interview because she lives in a different island in Japan. However, there is a US consulate an hour drive from where she lives. Is it possible to transfer my case to a closer embassy?

"Immigrant visas to the United States are processed at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. "

This includes K-1. Even though K-1 is non-immigrant, it is handled by the immigrant visa unit.

 

If the plan is to interview outside Japan, she must have legal residence there to interview.

Hmm...you may be right that it is possible to transfer to Naha. I did some more research and I see that they do have a post in Naha to handle immigrant cases, and Naha is listed on the DOS website as a valid K-1 post with NHA as its code. First time I heard of this honestly, but it does seem to apply. Good find.

 

As for how long it takes, that's something to check with them. generally case transfers can take a few weeks, but it may be different in-country. You would need to contact the consulate/embassy to check on it.

I contacted NVC and they said Tokyo would be the only one that process the immigrant/fiancé visa. but my Fiancé called the Naha US Consulate and they said they can do it there. Should I call the NVC back and address this?

Thanks fore confirming that Naha can take immigrant cases. Again, first I heard of this.

 

To have NVC update the destination embassy, you would need to go through them. Until they transfer the case to the embassy, they're the ones you will deal with.

You can also send a message to askNVC requesting the transfer.

There is the form referenced in the link you provided to request it there as well, but presumably that's for cases actually at the embassy. But it might not hurt to try there as well.

From other U.S. Embassy/Consulate to Tokyo/Naha

If you currently live in Japan and wish to have your immigrant/fiancée visa file transferred from other Embassy/Consulate to Tokyo/Naha, you will need to complete the Transfer Request Form.

Upon receipt of the completed the Transfer Request Form, we will ask the U.S. Embassy/Consulate of your case to transfer it to Tokyo/Naha.

NOTE: For the case transfer between Tokyo Embassy and Consulate General Naha, the same procedures as above apply. Please send the Transfer Request Form to the processing post by selecting the post on the form (e.g.,If you wish to have your case transferred from Tokyo to Naha, please select Naha on the Transfer Request Form.).
