I find it sad that when someone new posts for help, you get very little response because you are not in the "click" yet. But if you try to come up with some conversation other than bitching about the whole immigration process, you get all kinds of responses, mostly negative. Why do people jump on the bad stuff? I guess that is our frustrations coming out else where.

So, I will delete my profile, and just go back to reading and keep my mouth shut. I certainly don't need this sort of stuff, I have enough on my plate.

Lighten up people, stop getting so offended just because we don't all share the same opinions. The world is full of differences.

Interesting that you can come in and make sweeping generalizations and insults but you can't take it when they are challenged. Why not consider the fact some people here know more than you do about Egypt and muslims, and learn from them rather than be juvenile and call them a clique?

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

All of them. He finds the niqab too extreme and unnecessary.

Mine, too. Funny that "ninja" is in use across MENA.

Well Ms. Kitty has a new owner now. Turns out Mo's allergic to cats. At first we thought he was catching a cold but it seemed he only sneezed and was stuffy at home. My OM is a cat lady so she was happy to take her.

Some muslims think it's offensive for women to wear anything other than a black hijab that covers them entirely except for their eyes.

Some muslims think that wearing any hijab, colorful or not, fashionable or not, is appropriate (as shown in this article).

Some muslims think that if you wear a hijab it has to be modest.

Some muslims think wearing a hijab at all is unnecessary.

Some muslims think wearing a shirt is unnecessary as long as their hips down are fully covered and they have something on their head.

Are they all right? Are they all wrong?

Looks like a crapshoot of opinion to me. Not my words...I got them from someone else on this thread.

I wonder how many would enjoy having their religion made a mockery of on a regular basis by people saying, essentially, just do what feels good and call it "my personal version of Islam". Those of you who are offended by people who defend their faith are offensive right back. If Muslims were here making comments that amount to blowing off the tenets of other faiths, those among us who hold their religion dear would be taken aback. No one makes light of Christianity or any other faith here as much as people do of Islam.

If you like I can bash Christianity for a while; I'm an atheist and I think all religions are silly. Does that make you feel better? (F)

I should just stay out of this, but I really don't see how highlighting the many forms of observing Islam we see around the world is insulting to the religion. It seems more like a celebration that the faith finds such a broad audience in many different forms. It speaks universally to people from all over the world, but their interpretations and observations of it are colored by their cultural context.

You see the same thing with Christianity. It finds so many different forms, not only around the world but even within one city. I think it's wonderful that it speaks to some kind of universal truth that so many people accept as their own and find strength from. People celebrate it in markedly different ways, and although many people try to argue that their version is the only true way to celebrate it, I don't think we can pick any one form that represents the "true" Christianity.

Is it insulting to Christianity to say this? I don't think so.

Similarly Judaism has many forms. People interpret it in different ways, some adopting very conservative forms of dress, study, and worship, others opting for different interpretations. someone pointed out to me that there are many forms of Judaism, so the one I subscribe to isn't the only true form, I wouldn't be offended.

Nobody has exactly the same experience in this world, and nobody experiences religion in the same way as anyone else.

Because Islam is nothing like Christianity. And while it's similar to Judaism in terms of obligations, it's still unique in its incrementalism and obligations. One can't look at Islam via Jewish or Christian POV and expect to understand what it is GEG is saying.

Well everyone is different. We were eating at a fast food place in Cairo and there was a niqabi eating next to us. I pointed her out to my husband and his reaction was "alhumdulilah".

:P :P :P :P :P

Mine too.. One of my SIL's is a Niqabi.. My husband feels the same way. My DH would be thrilled if I wore a niqab BUT would never push it. A few of his favorite pic's of me is when I was wearing a niqab

Come back when your question holds some relevance. Or better yet, let me just jump ahead through your vapid question and get to the meat of it all.

The fact I don't personally believe in God (atheist, btw) has nothing to do with my ability to understand a religion via its own POV.

I'm not an illegal immigrant but I can understand why people risk their lives to come here to make some money to feed their families.

I'm not an arab (insert any more conservative than western culture here) but I understand that I can't judge how those parents raise their children based on my American liberal views and how I'd choose to raise my children.

I'm not a descendent of an American slave, but I can understand why there will never be enough mules or 40 acre lots to make up for that evil.

I can see how this might be hard for someone like you to understand, but really, it's how some of us try to understand and live in the world.

Thanks ladies for the mabrooks. (F)

I'm actually considering trying to wear niqab a bit when I go to Egypt insha'allah.

I don't think I'd feel safe wearing it around here though.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5
