Trying to tread lightly here so as not to break this thread rule: Please don't push your political and religious beliefs here.

N-o-l-a, I'm a proponent of single-payor and I approach it from the left, while I believe your political beliefs tend more toward the right (correct me if I'm wrong). But I don't understand how we (the collective "we" of America) get there. How do we ever bridge all of the political differences? I'm not optimistic. BTW, for reference, my wife and I (no kids) both work and get our insurance through my employer. It's $5500/year, $6000 deductible, 80% co-insurance in-network.

We can take this conversation off-thread if people don't like it.

Pretty sure Nola is left.  Believe she voted for Bernie.

Hubs and I pay $3250 per year, get a $1500 per year HSA that rolls over, have a 3k deductible and after that they pay 95% until 10k then 100%. Thats just medical.  We also have vision and dental on top.

Granted I do not have to wait for nor need referrals to specialists.

Yeah, I delegated for him. I'm a weird moderate, but the healthcare thing isn't political.  I'm just having a grumpy moment about the benefits cliff.  Believe it or not, before I realized what it was like to be working class or middle class, I was hardcore team Ayn Rand.

I was wrong about it, it was semi-monthly instead of monthly, so it would be like $800 or 900 a month for the family or $700 for just the Dane and I.  On a part time EMT salary, that just isn't happening.  I don't get why the plans aren't better, it was my previous experience that hospitals had good coverage.  The ones on the exchange are probably preferable.

No insurance in this area requires referrals, including medicaid.

Weird side FYI, EMS gets terrible wages.  So around here, it is $16/hr for an EMT.  Starting retail wage is $14.  Paramedics are only 22.   Long term, I've going to have to do the one year bridge to RN or go to PA school.  It'll probably be the later.

So what are you complaining about, huh Nola-B. ma'am?

Unless $Many is really $Many instead of $Many, but that's hair-splitting man.

To ease your situation, move to Poland where no one ever has to discuss or argue salary, everyone makes $Many* man.

Seems that way.  Finish up my B.S. just to start something else, finish that and go on to another one...

If my B.S. had actually been in my original subject area, mining, I'd totally work in that and never go back.  The thought of working in an office building gives me anxiety.  The Dane is the same way.

Yes and no.  Most of the engineers were 50+ when I was studying, so there were openings.    It was always the red-headed step-child of the engineering fields - a little bit of HVAC, geology, explosives, structural, electrical, mechanical, economics, etc.

The Dane thought I should go back and do it when I had my post-30 existential crisis, but I'm getting too old for such drastic things.

So...last night I had planned on ranting today. My husband and I went to the AOS interview on October 18 and (after stressing, taking all of the bonafide proof, with an interpreter in tow) the IO asked a couple of questions and said we would be approved BUT he didn’t have the k1 file and couldn’t really approve the AOS until after he received the file. He said it would take two weeks to get the file and an additional three to get the card. I, of course, thought that was just a run around. Until this morning....

I received the email this morning.....the status went from “interview complete and we have to review the case” to “your card is being produced”.

No rant from me tonight......all is good here. Hoping all is well for everyone else here.
