They are at least 50-100% more expensive to fly into our local Midwestern airport.  It is cheaper for us to drive 5.5 hours away, which is annoying.

I've been flying out of LA to visit the pretty Russian girl mostly. Going out of San Diego seems to add a connection and more than the cost of hiring a car to take me to LAX (because parking in LA is crazy and driving myself back to San Diego after a 10+ hour flight and no sleep doesn't seem smart). Why can't there be more transoceanic flights out of SAN than Frankfurt, London, Tokyo, and a seasonal to Zurich?

Into which airport would you fly, huh QA ma'am?  What larger ones are nearby, huh QA ma'am?

yep...same...but we have to go to the midwest right away because nobody can pick us up 😩

Fly into a large POE practically anywhere, then look for domestic fares on Southwest Airlines, see QA ma'am.

I remember our last transatlantic flight and it went something like drive 5.5 hours to airport, park in long term parking a half and hour away, get on flight, transfer in Iceland, get to Copenhagen, wait forever for lost stroller, and then drive 3 hours to relative's house.

 

The return was also bad because we had a super long layover in Iceland, 6 or 8 hours or something like that with a kid who wanted to crawl all over the airport. Then, waiting in the passport line in MPLS with a super heavy car seat on my back and a super heavy kid on my front.  That was no fun.

 

In any case, I refuse to travel internationally with kids for a while.

Renting a car might be cheaper.

 

 

All this reminds me of the time when we were leaving Denmark with the CR1 in hand and SAS had cancelled the first leg of our trip, but didn't tell our airline.  We drove full speed to the next airport and caught the connecting flight.  SAS is terrible.
