The MIL had a series of dogs for years. When I first met her she had a black lab, a greyhound, and a Jack Russell. Over time, the lab was the only one left when she got the Yorkie.

She set the smoke alarm off on Christmas day a few years ago, and could not remember the password to turn the alarm off. That thing was seriously loud. I put the Yorkie in the backyard, as she just could not tolerate the siren.  The firemen had to be sent, so it was a while.

Shelby, the lab, disappeared down the hall to the toy basket and came back with one in her mouth.  A brown stuffed squeaky dog, wearing a high-viz vest labeled Rescue Dog. Darndest thing I've ever seen.

The Yorkie, who came along with us when we moved here, is a sure indicator that Himself is about to have a hypertensive crisis. She goes to him and sits on his foot.  When I see her there now, I just automatically take his pressure and dole out the meds. So far, she's been right every time.

My friends bought me an instant pot. I wasn't going to buy one myself since I already have all the functions of one in multiple pots. No I can't and wont eliminate the others. They all have their purpose

 

So tonight I'm trying this recipe out. Nothing fancy but it's fast so that is what I went for.

Turned out ok as I expected. Nothing more than pasta with chicken. but it was done cooking in 10 minutes and that is always nice.

First time for everything. I had a call this morning from the hospital service coordinator.  The meeting was on Zoom, which I haven't used until today. It went reasonably well.

Her son, her absent daughter, and her nephew the weasel were all on. The daughter had her ears pinned back a bit, the Doc thanked her for her opinion but wasn't sure how relevant it was, as she hasn't seen or spoken to her Mum for over 11 years.  Her son bluntly said he didn't think she could look after herself, and as soon as he said that he left the call. The weasel had plenty to say, some of it actually useful, some of it frankly a bit self-serving. The Doc did remind him we were all trying to come to some sort of consensus about what might be best for Aud, not necessarily us.  

The Doc made some good points I thought, and did point out to Aud that she does require a lot of help, which she didn't deny. But she remained adamant that she would not go into a home with a bunch of 'demented old people'. Not yet.

The Doc managed to get her to understand that she does need to have a plan in place for when things go to pieces. A firm plan. They have proved her with options of care all over town, and offered to see that she gets around to look at places. She did say she would, but I wasn't convinced she will.  She knows she can't be made to do anything.

I don't know what happened in the end, because the call was time limited at 40 minutes so it ended rather abruptly.  I will hear when I call her tomorrow.

There was a cat in a nursing home that visited rooms seemingly at random, and within a day or two the room's occupant would invariably die.  This was the subject of a letter to the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, if we recall.  Would be nice to find that link, someone search please man.

Cat T-B. becomes lap-fungus and goes into barnacle mode, usually when she wants to play, si miu man.

Thrilling Sunday report, see man:

 

We went to bed at midnight and slept (albeit not completely restfully) until half-past Many (2x2x2+2) a.m., exhausted we man.

 

Despite our partial success in gaining the use of disposable plates, Mrs. T-B. managed to create a warshdisherful of stuff for us just in her first day back, sigh man.  Warsher has been duly dished, sigh man.

 

As a boon, Mrs. T-B. did laundry at her amiga's casa before returning, boon man.

We therefore had just 2 loads today, boon man: our stuff + their stray stuff, and blankets/robes, easy man.

 

We didn't leave the casa today, perfect Sunday man.

I would like an instant pot.  We got an air fryer for xmas.  It did well on the chicken strips and even on the store bought perogies.  I have a plan to make cheesecake in it tomorrow!  I was planning on doing it tonight but bought salted instead of unsalted butter because well, a) I use salted butter most of the time and b) the colours on the butter are mixed up on this brand.  The blue is salted and the red is unsalted.  But tillamook makes some of the better cheese, butter, and ice cream in this state.
