SM, that is happy news. Immigration is really tough on relationships and I wish you and your fiance the best. The first six months after my wife arrived in the US were no picnic either. It was a continuation of the earlier slog. But I can report, 3 years later, that things have steadily improved. We're both busy planning for the future while she works to improve my mood during my typical and temporary holiday depression. I think I'm going to get a ski pass in January. Alpine skiing always lifts my spirits.

In the meantime, my sister is going into hospital on Sunday for an op(on Christmas eve) to remove the tumour(we're praying for the best possible result with removal & margins etc-the surgeons were threatening to cut a very important wee organ off due to proximity but have been convinced to attempt to avoid doing so-quality of life situation & all) so it will all depend on the pathology results after surgery. We're hoping & praying for it to be ok(further surgery avoidable).

I've had a 'promotion' haha to 'general dogsbody'(quite literally) at the rescue kennels where I'd been volunteer walking the Greyhounds two days a week, a spot came up for a kennel hand & they asked me if I'd be interested.....it's two 7 hour days of sh!t shovelling (again literally) cleaning, feeding, more cleaning & sh!t shovelling & they can only give me something to cover my fuel costs etc but it's so rewarding knowing I'm doing what I can to help out these fantastic dogs in their time of need. My days are Monday & Tuesday so I'm on for Christmas eve & Christmas day plus Hogmany & Ne'erdy too.

Oh, good news!  The process is a trial for sure.

Congrats on the general dogsbody, lol.  Greys are wonderful, my MIL had a couple of rescues and they were lovely beasties. Once they got to grips with steps, and toys, and discovered the sofa, they were in doggies heaven.

In sad news, one of my childhood friends died today from cancer. She had been fighting for years, but it was a bad prognosis from the onset.

Remember how last week I replaced my headlight? The other side went out today and my mother says to me "oh I didn't know you could get in right away to the mechanic to get it replaced". She also seems to be under the impression, like the Dane, that one doesn't replace one's own headlights.  She is in her late 60s and claimed to me today that she's only once ever in her life, driving many miles a day for work, had a headlight go out. 

 

And she yet again today implied that ovarian cancer was the result of sleeping around.  Wrong cancer and just wrong wrong wrong and highly insensitive.

If we do not hear back promptly on Friday from our doc or her nooser about approval for an MRI, we shall certainly go aysheep on a lot of people, not to be risked man.
