They do sell CO detectors that pick up even small levels.  We ended up getting one back then and it definitely picked up the small leak.  I believe it plugged into a wall outlet and displayed the number that it detected and could replay the high for the past 24 hours or something like that. I've used a similar one in this house without it picking up anything at all. The old one always had low readings when the furnace was running, but I think that might really be a function of oil being dirty vs. natural gas.

 

If we opened one of our windows, I suspect it would the same deal.  Even though our water heater vents through the old kitchen chimney, the furnace next to it has PVC pipes that run across the house and outside to vent. That is standard installation of new furnaces in this area. I thought it was weird because in previous houses, I've only seen chimney vents. Almost everyone here had their furnace replaced about 20 years ago due to a flood, so we all have pipes out the side.

I'm going to have to look for a detector like that. 

 

The smell that comes on is like the furnace is vented in my house. Heck the smell comes in even when the whole unit is off for days. No a/c or heat running at all, but the odor is horrendous.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yes I know it's odorless. Except they do add an additive  to it so you can smell it. you know that rotten egg smell. 

He just left. Said if it was the exhaust I wouldn't smell anything when the a/c is running. I smell it year round and even if the unit is off for 3 days. 

He said he was under the house and found some duct work that had a hole or wasn't attached right. He couldn't get to it so he's having the guy that does the duct work to call me tomorrow. He found some opening by the unit itself that could allow that smell to come into that room. He also said with that hole we could be getting the odors from under the house. I'm not buying this at all. If it was from under the house it would smell mold/musty dirty what ever smell. Not chemical smells. It doesn't smell like my hot water tank, or gas stove, or my gas ventless heaters I have in the bathrooms. Heck I used to have a gas fireplace and the smell is not the same form that either. It's a chemical smell, so I will go through the motions of them fixing all that and if the sealing up of the unit he did today doesn't fix it. I'll be calling a lawyer.

Bah I'm going to smack you! Yes CO is odorless and they add stuff to natural gas. 

Anyway I'm smelling chemical not crud under my house.

So today's report on my heat and air unit is they will be fixing an elbow in the duct work tomorrow. 

 

Too bad the smell is not from under my house but that might explain some of this dirt and dust. 

 

I guess I'll be calling them at what ever hour it is when the fumes are at its worse.
