So it looks okay.  He actually cleaned up (i helped.)  Id still personally want to move to our actual bedroom once he gets gym equipment in there though.  The issue is that our upper floor doesnt get cool in summer and my husband cant deal with fans or moving air really in a room.

Its a constant pet peeve of mine that the guy we paid to install the new furnace and a/c didnt get a big enough a/c for the whole house.  They tend to minus the basement in their calculations.  😕

Can't you just block the basement registers?  Our basement, even without registers open, stays at around 60-65 year round.

About half of ours in the house are closed in winter and a couple in the summer.

Theres one basement register.  Its currently blocked.

Since this house is 4 levels with the basement and the cold air return is on the bottom floor (one step above the basement) vs the top, the difficult part is keeping the upper floor cool in summer.  So we sleep in the basement. The creepy unfinished spider basement.

The upper floor has the registers closed unless we have guests or the kiddo is here.

To add to that the basement gets about 70+ in the summer.  Our summers are a bit warmer than yours Nola.  Lol. I cant expect a basement to stay 65 when its 105 outside.

The Dane was installing a humidifier at his friend's house last week and said the hvac guy had installed an extra blower fan in their ducts because they were having trouble with the air reaching the top floor.  I wonder if that might be an option.

I could never sleep in our basement, mainly because of spiders.  But, also because of radon.

I remember.  I used to have a window air conditioner when I lived there.  We only use our AC to keep the house at 68 vs 74 here.

Add a split system to the house.

Like I did.

Adding 2 splits to my house cut the cooling bill by half.

Or just get a smaller house ;)

The most our AC adds to our summer bill is around $40 and the most added to the winter bill is $110.  #horsehair_insulation

That is a fairly good amount for the range between -20 and 95 we get.

Warm here today. Going to be under a tornado watch later on this afternoon.  Seems a little ridiculous it is as warm as this when it was freezing only a few days ago.

Not decking the halls yet, small though they be. I usually wait until the middle of December as everything stays up until twelfth night.  I have a train station decoration that used to play jingle bells, over and over, right up until I cut the wire. Now it tortures me less.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

So I can stay in another part of the house to avoid the leeches...
