That is what keeps from from some of these trades. No way will I go under a house.

They used to use ABX but for new stuff it's all PVC. this house is from the 50's but the addition is 70's. I fear our wiring.Another reason to get out of this house before we discover something that breaks us. All these recent repairs have cost us 25k ish.

So much more needs to be fixed. 😥

I wish I was around when he bought this house because I never would have allowed it.

So my oldest tells me they have something to tell us on TG.

Now for those jumping right away to say they are having a baby. Well sorry not with this kid. No Grandkids for me yet.

Well I was talking to the other 2 still at home and of course big sister says they are having a baby. I'm like you do remember who you are talking about right?

I told her no they just got back from Seattle, my guess is they are moving.

Well the last two days he's messaging me saying they are selling their couch. Do I want them.

Today I get another message asking if I want a glass desk.

Yup sure looking like they are moving.

I am not going under this house. I don't care how much I will save. they have spiders, snakes and who knows what else under there!

I agree. The only reason I went under ours the week after we moved in here was that the pipes were frozen, and Himself couldn't do it. And I convinced myself anything under there would be frozen stiff. The lies we tell ourselves... :D

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Are they still putting in cast iron for new construction?

Yes NYC bulding code is strict, ergo, the materials are expensive.

When I rebuilt my house, the 80 year old iron pipes were still in good shape.

The new pipes are all cast iron and copper.

The wiring are all armored cables.

The outlets are all AFCI/ GFCI

The boxes are all metal.

Etc...

That isn't such a bad idea, especially for fire reasons.

I'm not a fan of the pex that replaced our copper pipes.  It isn't what my husband installs now, but his old boss used it - the problem is that the connections have a much smaller diameter than the pipe being used and it has impacted the water pressure when multiple outlets are going.

They're selling those things to get money and make room for a crib. Duh!

What do you think of Amazon coming to NYC?

I don't really understand why any corporation that didn't need to be in a metro area, like finance companies, would open a new branch in a high COL place that is already bursting at the seams.  Like, why do you have your employees so much?
