I am the the petitioner (husband) I 130 petition

Brief Timeline

5/12/2017 Filed I 130 petition

02/2018  RFE notice  ( Wanting a certified Marriage Certificate  with the Philippine Statistical Authority stamp and Bar code in lower left hand corner of Document)

3/2018 Mailed the RFE letter and requested  document and USCIS in Nebraska and Nebraska Service Center acknowledges they received it

6/15/2018  Notice from Nebraska USCIS stating they are moving our petition from Nebraska Service Center to the Vermont Service Center

Received Letter today Dated 09/14/2018   ASC appointment notice    Letter reads as follows

To process the application, petition or request the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS)must capture your biometrics.

Please appear  at the below Application Support Center (ASC) at the date and time specified. If you fail to appear as scheduled , your application, petition, or request will be considered abandoned.

Then is lists what to bring and what not to bring etc

My question is ….   Is it normal to REQUEST the petitioner to a biometrics appointment? I am a U. S . citizen . The appointment is two and a half hours away .

Any information would be greatly appreciated . Its been a long wait …

  • No, it is not normal to request petitioner to have biometrics taken when filing for I-130/I-129F, I have not seen this for 50+ case I have known of.
  • Has the petitioner committed any sexual related crime, drug trafficking (no offense but it can be the reason)?

Absolutely not ! I go through background checks every year with my job.

I assume you are sonny1965?  It is not normal for a petitioner to be asked for biometrics. If you have not committed any serious crime before, USCIS could do random check or some reason your social security# has some red flag in their system.  Anyway, I do not think there is an option but go to the appointment to avoid the risk of having the petition rejected/denied.

I thought I had seen this (or a similar) statement in the I-485 instructions when my spouse (then fiance) was adjusting status after arriving in the U.S.... so I checked the I-130 instructions for the same information.

They don't require you to submit the bio fee when you submit the I-130, but they apparently can call you for it at any time during the process:

Something raised a flag to them (and not necessarily about you, per se, especially if you're passing regular background checks for employment) or you were simply selected at random. Whatever the case, you'll have to attend the appointment or your petition will be "considered abandoned" based on the appointment notice.

Yes it is normal for them to request the Petitioner to get boimetrics. many members on here had to go for biometrics too.

Sometimes your name can be similar to someone else's name and the only way to prove you are who you are is for them to get your prints.
