What embassy in Australia do I put for K1?

Hi all,

Sorry for posting a second time today, but my fiancé and I are tying up loose ends with our i129f and I realised that where it asks which embassy or consulate the beneficiary will apply for the K1, I put Melbourne (I live there), but I did a little searching and it seems that the only place that does K1 visas in Australia is Sydney, so I’ll need to write Sydney down instead and fly there for my interview, correct? I’m just wanting to make sure I’m understanding this correctly.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but TIA!

It actually doesn't seem to matter what consulate you choose on the form, it's going to be sent to the one that handles K-1s for the beneficiary's current residence (or the most recent one listed on the form, anyway) regardless.

So don't worry too much about this unless you move to another country after the petition is filed or have other reasons why you want/need your petition handled somewhere else (like, say, getting impatient with delays getting interviews in Moscow).

FYI, there is only ONE US Embassy in any country.  The rest are "Consulates".  Sydney has the only Immigrant Visa Unit in Australia.  It's down to one unit in any country now.
