Germany took away all the Nazi stuff so why not. Just put them in museums or something.

Copying what Germany did is not always the best option

Well, comparing war heroes like Grant and Lee to nazis is about the craziest thing I've heard, but I see your point.  As long as they are being preserved in a museum,  it's not such a big deal.

There is a statue of Magellan in the park honoring Lapu lapu. Magellan was killed in battle there after occupying the Philippines. Lapu Lapu is a local hero. when I asked my brother in law, why they were honoring Magellan. He said its part of history

I wasn't comparing them to Nazis.

So you are saying Hitler and Robert E Lee are the same thing ?

No, but if that's what you want to believe that is your choice. Germany didn't want to keep the Nazi stuff so they got rid of it. Just like the US doesn't want these statues anymore. Ukraine removed Lenin statues. France has removed certain street names because of what it used to stand for. This is not a new thing and Germany is not the only ones doing it.

Certain people in the United States want them removed, not the United States

There are probably certain people in Germany, Ukraine, France etc that didn't want certain things from their history removed either but here we are.

Sad state of affairs when you forget history and sweep it under the rug

Why anyone would want to keep public remembrances of mass genocides is not even a question.

The statues mentioned here are of civil war heroes.  Respectable men, full of honor for country and state in their era.  No different than other military heroes we have honored over the decades.

I see how you might not grasp it fully, being from another country and not growing up with this as part of your heritage.
