1.  my fiance jokingly called me his beautiful wife/bride

2.  We’re both in our early 20s

3.  and calling each other wifey and hubby is very common.

1.  This "joke" has been the kiss of death to many a K-1 application.

2.  You can anticipate worst-case situations at any age.

3.  And reckless, as you found.  Not "combing" the contents of your submissions was equally bad.

These points are not to make you feel even worse; they're to emphasize to others the potential folly of treating any part of this immigration process casually, especially the consular phase.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I gave common sense advice,   10 minutes away from social media and smart phone to do a task that could prevent issues later is well worth it.

Not the kind to fly by the seat of my ### for issues that could of been prevented.

You made a claim so I requested the source since it conflicted with what many others have successfully done for years. I'm assuming no such source will be provided.

Yes, sending it beforehand is fine. But I'm unaware of cases that have been denied due to concurrently withdrawing the petition.

Sorry that you've had to go through this. As others have said, it definitely pays to read up as much as you can on VJ before submitting any evidence and you will know this now for the future, it's just a shame you've had to learn the hard way.

When we applied for K1, I made sure I changed my fiances name on my phone from 'Wifey' before I printed out Whatsapp chat logs, as after reading various threads on VJ I was so paranoid that something like this might happen.

Write letter to UCSIC, asking to withdraw your K1 Petition, they will send you confirmation of your request,   then you can get married and file a CF1 visa.

Send it UPS or USPS with required signature so you know they receive it.

Thank you so much

My fiancee is from San Salvador and I may have called her my wife a few times as a pet name....my interview is coming up so I should recheck those chat logs. I used photos of her wearing the engagement ring and proposal. I assume thats okay?

I have a question about this....

What if you go to the interview with a recent/official (Single Status Certificate/non-marital status certificate/Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage) or however it's called in your country proving right then and there that you are in fact not married.

I wonder if that actually would help people in this situation?

We thought of doing that but we’ve already had an interview and they won’t let us reschedule. Also the embassy doesn’t have a direct line of contact so they can’t be reached and they won’t let anyone inside unless they have an appointment. This is why I decided to post this on visa journey in case someone did this and was successful

I’m sure that would also help but not every country has that.

You really shouldn’t be calling her wife if she isn’t your wife yet..enjoy your time as a fiancée lol...when it comes to immigration you REALLY need to make sure you don’t call her wife if she’s not

I am saying that he was black American just to show that there was no cultural barriers and he should have understood the term “engagement party”. I am Black and American as well!

What cultural barriers? The Consular Officer is AN AMERICAN....nothing to do with race.
