Next steps in applying for visa (DS-160, embassy etc).

Good evening everybody.

My fiancee has just received the notice from the NVC giving us our case number and notifying us that our petition had been sent to the US Embassy in London. I know that the next step is to apply for the visa, but I am unsure of how to go about it. The notice from the NVC states that the Embassy/Consulate will contact me when they are ready to process my petition. Should I now go ahead and submit the DS-160 or should I wait until I have received communication from the Embassy confirming the receipt of the petition from the NVC?

The case number given on the email my fiancee received doesn't yet show up as valid on the CEAC tracker (https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx).

I'm sure this has been covered plenty of times but we are both a little lost at the moment and would very much appreciate help and advice.

Thank you!

The embassy will contact her and give her a link to follow the instructions on their website.

Instructions https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/

She can get startedwith those.

If she hasn't gotten her police certificate, immunization records, or health summary, those are needed for the medical exam so jump on arranging that right away.

Hi Wuozupo,

Thank you for your reply. I should have specified that she's the petitioner and I'm the beneficiary, but your answer applies to me also, anyway.

I have my police certificate, vaccination record and GP patient summary already. For the medical exam, does the police certificate have to be within the last six or twelve months? I got mine in February 2018.

They don't say http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-bring.htm but you could call them. I think they are mostly looking for drug or alcohol related offenses for the mental health substance abuse part of the exam.

According to the UK US embassy website for the medical police certificates have to have been issued within the last 6 months. So you will need to get it again.

i see, thank you. A little frustrating to have to pay for another one but hey, there we are.

Another question while I'm here for anyone/everyone. My patient summary details how at various points over the years I've had GP appointments to discuss depression/anxiety. This isn't related to, or hasn't resulted in, self harm or harm to others, but is more of a general depression/anxiety thing. On the medical questionnaire it asks if I have a history of it. As I will be putting yes (since it's on my patient summary that they are going to see), is it true that I need some kind of letter from my GP stating I have not had any history of harm to myself or other people as a result? It feels somewhat dehumanising to have to do that, but if it's the difference between passing or failing the medical then I know I'll need it.

Further to that, what would one have to do (or not do) to fail the medical? Not that I plan to of course, I'm just curious. I just find I'm a little anxious about the whole process (medical, embassy), and since we are on the final straight after what feels like an eternity I just want to make sure everything is airtight. I think my nervousness comes from not really knowing what I'll be asked/what will happen (which sums up the whole K1 process really!). If anybody who's gone through the medical wants to weigh in, then feel free! :)

Thanks in advance for your patience!

I am hoping to clarify this as I also got my police certificate in Feb 2018.

I have been trying to research this and I was under the impression that the police certificate only has to be valid for the K1 visa interview and on the London US embassy website it says that it is valid for 12 months so as long as I get my Visa interview before it expires then I'm ok as they don't need it specifically for the AOS interview later.

I understood that the medical has to be within 6 months to be valid not the police certificate.

@DktrFaustus Knightsbridge specifically request this:

ACRO Police certificate (or a copy) dated within the last 12 months for anyone 16 years of age & over (if your police certificate is more than one page long please advise Visa Medicals ahead of your medical as you may need additional time with the Doctor. If you fail to tell us ahead of time you may be asked to come back to go over this at an additional fee).
