How long till you can take the medical after sex? I visited right as our paperwork was going through. We aren't in too much of a rush cause she is going to stay and work for awhile. TIA

It's like going to the bank. If you make a deposit, you have to wait till it post to use it. If you didn't make a deposit then your money is ready to use. If it's the latter then you can go anytime. If it's the first then wait 3-5 days. :D

Haha thanks I'll let her know a week is adequate, she is out of town for work right now anyway.

Just be careful if you are really tight between medical and interview dates. In a similar situation, we gave it a week gap before medical, and St Luke’s ended up dragging the medical out to 3 days  then scheduled her a return visit I believe 2 weeks later to get the flu and Tdap shots. We did get the brown envelope on the third day and had no troubles with the embassy interview the next day, but it seems they were concerned about those two vaccines if she happened to be pregnant.

Funny thing was SLEC had given her a blanket waiver on those two vaccines so it was much worry about nothing in the end.

Though as you have pointed out "it can happen" but in most cases you can fly right through in 2 days maybe 3 max. To return 2 weeks later for additional shots is a fluke so I wouldn't consider that every day experience. If you do your medical and your interview in the same week, which it can be done and many do, and you run into a problem you're allowed to reschedule or go to the interview and take a 221(g) and then once everything is complete, the Embassy will finish adjudicating your case. No harm done and this way you can keep your tight schedule.

I know of a short time frame where SLEC was out of some vaccines and had people come back once the supply arrived.

Other wise the medical is normally a two day process .. even states so on the SLEC website.

My point was simply to be careful with timing. If SLEC has any reason to think the applicant could remotely be pregnant then they’ll make it a bit of a pain for no good reason since the only two shots they wouldn’t administer (flu and Tdap) were both eligible for blanket waivers. But in the end, it didn’t delay us and we didn’t have to deal with any vaccines after arriving here in the US since we had time for her to go back and get them after SLEC was comfortable there wasn’t a pregnancy involved. Just another reason why it’s more fun in the Philippines I guess. Ha!
