Hmm, I've done the DS-160 twice.  I don't remember there being any section about binding ties, e.g., questions about financial status or home ownership.  Both things that would typically be accepted as ties, and that the OP could have provided given the chance.  Maybe they are using a different DS-160 for the Dominican Republik?

Correct, those items are not listed (other than who is paying for the trip is asked). The reason they're not listed as they generally not significant ties and/or are discovered during the interview via basic questions, if deemed necessary.

Edit; And financial status can generally be assessed via the employment section. It doesn't cover the fully employed but significant asset people, but that's probably not common enough that it can be addressed via conversation.

If there was a magic document, would be normal practice to ask for it.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

So property ownership may be considered a weaker tie for your country's consulate.  People can continue to own property while overstaying...

Give me some examples of strong ties... cuz before applying I Read the checklist of supporting documents.

I’m Not trying to be rude with this but

now that checklist was a waste of time.

properties for them I can sell it or manage from outside.

for them I can left  behind my wife.

for them i can left behind my current job and studies, on the form I put the quantity of money I earn per month, i don’t think a people with neurons Working properly will leave an office for being washing dishes or picking garbage i don’t know the criteria of visa officer but seriously that young lady didn’t drink her coffee at the morning.

so what kind of ties can be strong for them ?

I don’t know details about DR, but I know where I come from, the suburb you live in and the company you work for tell the CO (who will have local knowledge) volumes, as does any kind of pattern of visa abuse in the country. I’m sure it’s like this most places.

as for home ownership... we and a good number of the immigrant friends we know still own property in our home countries, reasons may differ for keeping it, but owning property is not the solid tie many people think it is. Now this next bit is general, I have no idea about OP’s situation - A solid job with a good company, a nice suburb you live in, etc, are seen as good ties. yes in a way it discriminates against those who are not as well-off, but those are precisely the types of people who have less to lose at home/more to gain from staying illegally in the US. Someone with a senior white collar professional job in a good company with a big house in a nice suburb and maybe kids at private schools is a very, very low risk of overstay. The cleaner at the company, on the other hand...

i think the point another poster made about the strangeness of going on vacation (especially a first time exciting trip somewhere) without your partner is also valid and can be seen as a red flag.

none of this is meant to target the poster in a negative way, just help explain some of the thought processes.

A couple examples are:

1) Jobs that have been maintained for years and cannot just be left (i.e. companies don't higher middle level & up managers, highly skilled workers, etc. without verifying their work eligibility)

2) Travel history, especially to other similar "first world" countries.

3) The elderly without close US relatives tend not to be targets to uproot their life and live in the US.

You weren't refused because the consulate officer hadn't had her coffee that morning.  You were refused because per the statutes she is required to adhere to, she was not convinced of your intention to return to your country.

It is not black and white, or a case of "bring these documents and its a sure thing."  Its more nuanced, and based on the TOTALITY of how you present your case, both via the form and in person.

For example, someone else alluded to the fact that it could be considered unusual that you were not traveling with your SO.  I know you said that you have different vacation times, but if you are a business owner, wouldn't you have a little more leeway around that?  And in your culture, is it typical to travel for pleasure without your spouse?

Also, what was the final destination for your trip to the US, and did you have an itinerary with hotels booked?  Do you have family or friends here?

Any criminal convictions or arrests?  Are you male and young?

These are just some examples of what may be looked for on the DS-160 as they review applications before the interview.

If the American consulate is a "joke" and they represent the US, why do you want to visit a country you think is a "joke".

Many countries have bureaucratic systems that are a complete joke but that doesn't mean there's nothing in that country worth visiting. I've heard that in Cambodia for example if you don't bribe the border officials you're not getting in but a vacation in Cambodia is certainly worth it

If you ONLY want to VISIT as a tourist for a vacation, why don't you take a vacation somewhere else?

People don't usually choose to go through a lot of extra work to take a pleasure trip. Especially after a legal roadblock. Yet you desperately want to. Hmmm.....

No is not normal in all culture that, but if she asked me for documents she would have that answer, I was prepared for that question.

Why do you want to visit Long Island specifically? To me that would be a strange part of the US to

choose as a first visit why not say New York? I would pick say Las Vegas, New York (Manhattan really), Boston, LA, SF, before that unless I knew someone there.

The biggest reason CO's aren't obligated to look at documents is because any document an applicant shows cannot be verified as a true document on-the-spot.

For example, anyone can write a letter of employment on their home computer, create their own letterhead, and print it out.  People here on VJ have admitted to presenting forged documents at a visa interview before (not implying any of your documents were forged).

And I'm also curious why you'd choose Long Island as a place for tourism...?   Did you have friends/family there?

It's very hard to get a tourist visa from DR. My husbands sister applied and was denied. She is married to a man from Switzerland and has a visa from there and goes it often for work Her husband was living with her in DR. They have a huge house n lots of money. Shes currently a teacher in Switzerland and spends 3 months of summer in DR. She sent all documents of job in Switzerland, her house documents, her bank statements, her marriage certificate. She only wanted to visit for 2 weeks And was still denied.

Hmmm... on this, unfortunately what your fellow citizens do does impact and it seems different countries have different “cultures” or “attitudes” (for want of better words) about this. In some countries it is fairly common for people to leave spouses and children behind and overstay illegally, and send for them later after they have set themselves up in the US. In other countries such occurrences would be very rare. So it’s quite normal and reasonable for a CO to assess your likelihood of doing something based on what has happened with the gazillion other compatriots of yours who have passed through the embassy. Yes it’s unfair to genuine applicants but the blame is with your fellow citizens, not a “bad” consular officer.

I agree. I have a former friend who is 52 years old from Kenya. Came here on a "UN Conference" invitation - yes another scam from our friendly UN. Got here on a B2, immediately applied for 'asylum', left behind a wife and three kids. Working here. (asylum application is phony). This goes against Kenyan Citizens applying for genuine reasons. Blame your fellow country men
