There is a question in DS 160 asking who will sponsor your trip.

No such question exists. There is a question about who will pay for the travel expenses, but this is different than sponsorship for a visa.

The CO doesn't need proof that somebody else is paying for the travel expenses.

I am going to write an invitation letter addressed to consulate to explain our particular family situation and why i invite my mom to visit.

I agree that nothing would make a difference if an officer has made his/her mind.

If you have decided to do so, what was the point of asking the question?

No forms are needed from you.

It's not just a matter of them already having made up their mind...it's that the forms will have no impact on the decision in the first place.

Since me and my partner who is paying for the trip are inviting my mom I was not sure how to write this letter showing that we both invite my mom.

All the sample letters I have seen are one person inviting someone.

I am just caught up in formalities.

Thank you.

There are no formalities for b2 visas, I think you need to understand that.

If you're really gung ho about writing a letter, write a couple of paragraphs re relationship to the applicant and purpose/finances of the intended trip.

Precisely, no formality about an invitation letter ...because the DoS website specifically says they don’t matter. Jorgedig already copied the pertinent bit from the official website yesterday. Would be very strange to have a formal process for something that is not taken into consideration...!

Guys, thank you very much for your replies.

The other immigration forum I searched mentions very stringent process of preparing documentations even for a visitor visa.

I know an interview for a B2 visa is quick and usually without going into much details. I am still thinking how thorough I should be gathering all supportive documentation. I don't want to fill 8 page affidavit... Invitation letter to consulate in English explaining your particular family circumstances is not a bad idea. I am not sure how well immigration officers understand Russian.

English is my second language so I am doing the best I can posting here.

My original questions have not been answered though...

Thank you for participating in the discussion.

I don't want to sound harsh but the embassy doesn't care about your "particular family circumstances". They don't care why people want to go to the USA, they only care about why they'll leave.

I applied for a visitor visa so I could be present at my daughters birth, I'd have thought that was a good enough reason. It was refused.

The Consular Officer looked heartbroken and told me she truly wished she could approve the visa but my reason for going didn't matter. I couldn't convince that I would come home again so it was rightfully denied.

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

Hello guys,

I just wanted to update everybody on the good news. My mom got  a visa despite two previous visa refusals!

The officer DID LOOK at each paper I sent to her and also looked through all the documents she collected to prove the ties to her country.

I did not fill the affidavit of support but I got the letter of employment for my husband and my SS disability letter. I mailed the papers to her with the original signature of my oncologist and my signature on the invitation letter. I wrote one invitation letter addressed to the embassy describing why I invite my mom and our family situation.

You read the forums and it has good information but you have to make your own decision how to approach the process.

I think they want to make sure you don't have fake invitations from non existent people.

I hope this information will be helpful to other people.

Good luck to everybody!

How did they do this> Did they contact you to check that you had written them?

That would explain why they were checking the documents.
