Hey guys!

I need to reassure myself that my situation is fine and won't complicate things at the POE. My visa is in the mail and I am mentally preparing for the trip down :)

My father is letting me borrow his car to move my things down (a lot of my stuff is already in the US, long story, been married for 5 years!). I'd be crossing with my husband and our pet dog. I was wondering if there would be any issue regarding the fact that I am crossing for the first time as a permanent resident. I've crossed plenty of times as a tourist with the same car. The plan is to have my father fly for a visit later this year, and then he could drive his own car back up.

Would there be any questions related to the car? I do have the car papers, it is insured and my name is in record as a second driver... but my father doesn't speak English, so if something would come up and they would want to talk to him, it would probably be a headache. 😕

If your name is on the insurance and you have the registration, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I doubt they'll ask, but if they do, just tell them what you said above and it should be fine.

Good luck with the trip!

Thank you for your reply, @chiggins82 ! I can always show them proof that I will return with the car (which is what we settled on for a plan), because I have discussed it with my father already, through texts. Hopefully that is good enough ! Thanks again :)

Nothing says you have to import a vehicle when you POE anyhow.  You'd have a year to do it.  Just ensure that your insurance will cover you in the USA after you become a non-resident of Canada.
