I am sure @geowrianknows these things much better than me, but I wonder if you being there could help the expedite?   Also, is there a safer place than his parents' house, for the two of you?

Well the first week that I am there we will be going to another city which is about 500 miles away For a mini vacation. But after that, staying at his parents is pretty much the only option.

Step 1 is doing whatever you need to do to be safe. That's always priority #1.

The main issue here is that the threat is a personal one, not a government/political one. As such, the local 4authorities would be the go-to resource.

I have seen some approvals when the local authorities were known to be essentially non-existent in such matters. I don't know Argentina well enough to say if that's the case, but it's not one I'm familiar with where the police corruption is so rampant that they are known by the USG to ignore serious threats.

We will do everything possible to stay safe. I honestly don’t know enough about the country in regards to the local authorities and how they handle situations like this. But from what the locals say, they are corrupt. I don’t think they cover any issues in regarding their government on our news, but if you search the issues that are going on right now, you will see the the previous president is about to go to prison for laundering millions of Dollars. At one point they went through something like 4 presidents in less than 2 years...

Thank you.

Argentina is a big country, obvious thing to do is move somewhere else and not give out his phone number.

I live in the US. And moving somewhere else is not an option financially. I truly wish it were that easy.

That it is. I'm going for work there next week for the second time.

While it's threatening, like others have said probably not near enough for expedite. Minus calls, if there physical proof you can give to prove it? Without actual hard evidence probably won't happen. And just being one random crazy person making threats probably not near enough to warrant an expedite.

No, other than the recorded calls, there is nothing else. So yes, they will most likely not approve.  Thank you.

Excuse my naive question. But since the police already takes care of him and arrests him today, isn't your husband safe then?

I would hope, but because he goes to jail doesn’t stop anyone else that “works” for him from doing something. It may sound stupid, but it is a reality.

May want to have him visit a local armory as they call the gun stores there. No fully automatic, but looks like everything else is in the table. And a permit to carry will only take about 10 days to process, maybe even faster since you have made a report to the local authorities showing a legitimate reason for the permit.

Posted some information below, looks like gun sales are up by over 50 percent lately due to violence and robberies.

It is actually not that restrictive.
But when you go to a gun shop the sellers already have all the circus ready for you. You go, pay, and provide the papers required by law (you can’t have psicological problems to own a gun or criminal records) and they will do all the papers for you. Once they are they call you for a few signatures and you got your weapon.

Then you are registered in the National Registry for Fire Arms. Other answer here says the RENAR (now ANMAC) depends on the Ministry of Defense, it is incorrect. It is part of the Justice Ministry.

https://www.renar.gov.ar/

You can have pistol, revolvers, hunting rifles, semi auto rifles, combat rifles as a Mauser Argentine Modell or Kar-98 or Winchester.
Being a collector (special license and proper facilities with enhanced security) you can have war weapons, even tanks. But the RENAR will go and neutralize their firing systems so you can’t fire them. Automatic weapons that are already in civilian hands have a modification to neutralize automatic fire..

Wow, thank you for the detailed post. I will have my husband look into that. We are just scared of something interfering with the entire immigration process.

Again, thank you.

I'm an April 2018 filer (not yet approved) but saw a fellow April filer got their case expedited and approved in about 1-2 months! The quote below is what they explained, but the gist seems to be to reach out to your local senator and have them contact USCIS to expedite. If you are really worried then this might be an option to explore!

"You don’t send your case to the local senator. You ask you senator or Congress person to request USCIS expedite your case given meeting one or more of USCIS’ expedite criteria: humanitarian reasons, economic hardship of individual, in the interest of U.S. culture (NGO’s), in the interest of U.S. government ( a branch of the government needs to indicate this), in USG interest. Search for USCIS expedite for more information. It’s not easy and many expedite requests don’t get approved." - ChrisJay11

Expedites can be requested via USCIS directly (via a phone call) or through a senator. One is not more successful than another...what matters is the merits of the request and evidence provided, not who requests it.

*Thank you* We barely filed in August. He is staying with his parents. Just not sure how much of a help that could be since their pretty up there in age. I’m actually going to visit for 3 weeks in October and honestly, now I’m scared to death. You just never know with these kinds of things. While I lived there last year, you heard and saw these things on the news all the time. It is a reality they live with all the time.

We tried to get an expedite for my then fiance in Kenya as people heard about him being gay after we filed the CR1. Despite my Senator's intervention, the process took its time. Not sure if it will work with you.

One suggestion our Senator gave was to have him stay for 6 months in another country. Then apply for the CR1 or K1 in that country.

Scared for his life and yours and you intent to travel there????

I wouldn't

Look at it from immigration viewpoint,   a relative trying to help the process along could make calls

Hello,

Our I-130 is pending at the TSC.

Unfortunately, my husband has been in an on going battle with his ex wife. Her bf threatened my husbands life several times on the phone today (said was going to mail me his head in a box, was going to send him to the US in a wheelchair, etc.) and the phone call was being recorded. This man (the bf) from what we know is part of a “Mafia” in his country and my husband has stayed very clear of him.  During the phone call he (the bf) was told several times the call was being recorded but we assume he didn’t believe it. It is not illegal to record a call in Argentina.  My husband then contacted his lawyer, forwarded him the audios and the lawyer went to the police station and filed the police report. Since it is Sunday, tomorrow the police report will be presented to a judge, which then they will arrest the bf. Threats like this in that country are not taken lightly and now my poor husband and me, all the way over here are scared to death.

I have not spoken to our immigration attorney. But I am curious if there is any way to expedite his petition.  Argentina does not have a USCIS office.

Sorry for for the long lost and thank you for reading.

It is worth trying as you are very early in the Visa stage.

However, an NPR program spoke of how hundreds of Ex--US-Military Interpreters

were facing executions daily in war and crime infested areas. Their families

were targeted as well. But, no expedites there; resulting in the deaths of many

of them before making it here. Argentina is a much more stable country, so things

could be different. I suggest your husband travels to Brazil or Paraguay. I visited

those countries by bus despite the distance. I flew to Rio from the States, of course.

Better safe than sorry. Furthermore, expediting and if granted, won t be done this week.

He still needs to be safe somewhere. Best of luck and be safe.

If it is truly a life-and-death emergency, shouldn't moving him to a safe location be a priority with sacrificing for? You and/or your joint sponsor have to make a certain amount to sponsor him. He might get a job to help out some , a gun, and head to a new location!

Ive already purchased my $1,000 non-refundable ticket. And although we are both scared at this point, nothing is going to keep me from seeing him. After this trip, I don’t know when I’ll see him again. So if we have to sit in a house 24/7 hiding, I would do that a million times over, as long as he is beside me and I can actually touch his skin and not kiss a computer screeen. 🤷‍♀️

Of course it would be worth sacrificing for if there was a way to do it. I am his only sponsor and also have a school age daughter that financially depends on me, so there are so many road blocks that prevent me from being able to do more than what I already have and can do. At this point all I can give him is support and comfort. If I was a miracle worker, he would be sitting here in California next to me. It’s a tough situation that’s he’s now having to deal with and I can’t even begin to imagine what has crossed his mind in the last 24 hours. Love is what I can give. I truly thank you for trying to help out.

I have a question, would him moving to another country cause any issues with the immigration process?
