maybe there's a forum specifically for this, i didn't see it but please do direct me to it if this isn't the right place!

my husband (UK citizen) and i (US citizen) have been in the UK on a spouse visa for 2 years, we are in process now with our visa for him to move to the US (just have interview at UK embassy left to do).

we don't have jobs set up just yet for the US (4 months yet to go) but have been keeping our eyes peeled and putting the feelers out there - we aren't banking on having jobs/healthcare through them at the time of moving.

is ACA the best option until we do get jobs (we would rather not be uninsured for any period of time)? i don't know much about it, do we have to have been residents in our state for x number of months before being eligible? what have any of you guys done for healthcare right away in the interim?

I know the ins is for you guys and you are not over 65, but this thread has a lot of info. ACA depends on how the state set it up. Generally for ACA tax credits you need some kind of income. (around10-15apx) If you have no income the marketplace (or your states marketplace website) will enroll you in medicaid if you qualify. Your husband wont qualify as an immigrant for federal based medicaid in every state. Some states do offer state funded medicaid for immigrants.

There is also a lot of things going on in gov with Trump making executive orders and trying to dismantle ACA and restrict immigrants and the USC who want to sponsor them by counting tax credits and medical assistance (even for the USC or USC children) as a public charge.

Go to the marketplace and play around on it. There are estimated calculators so you can see if you qualify and how much of a credit you will get.

Hey, thanks for sharing such an insightful information over here. I remember a few days ago my grandmother who is suffering from dementia and Alzheimer disease got shifted to the USA  south jersey and thus due to alternate shift hours in the office, dad was unable to look after and to give proper attention to grandmother. Thus he decided to contact elder care lawyers in south jersey from Scott counsel who also supports handling and counseling to the individuals giving them a mental support as well as helps them in decision making.
