Pura Vida y'all! Had our interview today, and we were approved! 😎 🎉😍

She said up to two weeks to pick up the passport, but hopefully it'll be sooner. Thanks everyone for the support! And of course, best of luck on the rest of your journeys!

Hey guys! Once approved, how long does it actually take for the passport to be ready?

Do you guys get an email or what?

The interviewer told us he could pick it up in about two weeks, at the location specified on the appointment confirmation letter. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone,

i am am in the very beginning stages of starting the k1 visa application. I started working on this back in May with a lawyer but we had to unexpectedly put things on hold. So, now I am back to filling out forms, and decided to try this without a lawyer. Good idea or bad idea? I don’t know. My fiancé is from Costa Rica I met him through my parents who have reitred there. So here we go again! I’ve been reading the threads in here and I feel hopeful and comfortable asking questions. Yikes!

Jo

p.s. I know I didn’t ask questions.  But believe me, I’m sure I will have some!

If your case has no red flags (warning signs or potential difficulties), this is something that you can undertake on your own with guidance from here.

The secret to your success during this entire process depends on your abilities to read forms & instructions accurately, interpret literally, and answer/respond completely and honestly.  It also really helps to become a serious student of the entire process, not just your current stage of it, so read voraciously and ask about things that might stump you.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Just as an FYI for any future interviews:  The embassy instructions tell you all the things you can't bring in, such as electronics, phones, bags, etc. I was wearing a smart watch, and it never occurred to me that a smart watch was considered an electronic - it is :) We had to go across the street and rent a storage locker, which was easy enough though, only cost 2000 colones.

Damn, that's a long time to be waiting! When we were approved, she said 10 days, which I thought was way too long! Didn't think there were any holidays coming up, other than Christmas. My fiance is hoping to fly up here on Saturday 😢

We had our interview yesterday (and we were approved! 🤗) and she said 10 working days, so that would be about 14 days total.  The embassy is only closed on the 25th of Dec and the 1st of Jan, but I don't know about the Correos, if the holidays will affect the delivery time.

Hey, all! Happy New Year!

Just checking in with how things are going in CR! My fiance has his interview the 14th of this month, and our visa petition expires on the 20th, so I was getting a little nervous and wrote the embassy for an extension, they just encouraged him to mention it in his interview. However! Now with the government shutdown, I'm worried about the interview itself being cancelled/postponed and the petition expiring. When I called, they basically said if that happens, there's a protocol and you'll be notified (a little too pura vida for my nervous brain, hah!). Any word on how things are proceeding with the embassy and if they're anticipating any closures?

Additionally, I'm curious as to how long others have waited to receive their passports at the post? Trying to get an idea of when he could potentially arrive if all goes well. :)

Thanks, as always, and pura vida!

Hey there,

Our interview was on Tuesday, December 11th, and we were approved. Status changed to "issued" on 12/13, and arrived at Correos de Costa Rica on 12/19 for pickup. Hope this helps!
