Hey guys,

I see see a lot of K1 filers here and know there are some differences between our processes (I am CR1), but does anyone know if I have flexibility of scheduling the interview or do they assign me a date? I read that with K1, you can schedule it and with CR1/I1 you can't, but I don't know if that is true.  I'm at NVC stage now and also am finishing up grad school so I'm eager to know bout when my interview could be.

Thanks!

My fiancé just made a trip into San Jose to get his birth certificate, police record and certificate of marital status on September 7th.  He took the documents to the Casa Amarilla (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) to have them apostilled for good measure.  They told him he could pick them up on Tuesday, but he hasn't been able to get back to pick them up because of the strike that is happening.  He called and they said they would hold on to them and he could pick up them up when things settle down.  Has anyone else been affected by the strike?  It sounds like things are pretty topsy-turvy down there right now.

Do you know where you have to go to get the police record? Thanks!

Hi! We did the CR1. They'll give you a date and time for your appointment.

In CR, to any Court. You can even request it online and then go pick it up, but it takes about the same amount of time if you just walk in.

Hey there,

Our interview was on Tuesday, December 11th, and we were approved. Status changed to "issued" on 12/13, and arrived at Correos de Costa Rica on 12/19 for pickup. Hope this helps!

Wonderful!! Congrats on the terrific news! ❤️ Let's hope things are moving along as efficiently despite the shutdown! :)

Has anyone here had any experience with filing a 601-A and interviewing in CR? Just wondering if the embassy moves as quickly with 601a as with K-1 CR1 petitions.

Hello!

Does anyone know if for CR specifically you have to have your appointment letter to make an appointment for the medical exam or if we can just go and get it done with the proper ID and 2x2 photos?  I will be there in March and it'll be way easier to go together in a rental car and get everything done.  I'm in the NVC stage now so I'm not worried about the 6-month validity of the exam expiring if I go in March.

On a similar note, does anyone know if the results are all same day or if we have to go get the x-ray and blood work the day/ or days prior.

Thanks so much!

Hi All,

I've reached out to a couple of CR members directly, but I wanted to cast a wider net. I happend to call the NVC tonight and found out my wife's birth certificate was rejected today. No messages on the portal, no explanations from the operator, only that it does not conform to the requirements. I  called back and spoke to two different operators who told me the same exact thing. One guessed that it was because my receipt was covering the title page, but was not sure. The second sent a supervisor request, but there is no time-frame on that.

Can anyone see what is wrong with the attached document? It appears to come from the right issuing authority, per the NVC Reciprocity Website. I hope to be able to submit again this week. My wife is going to get another copy (via an 8 hour bus ride to Chepe...fun fun). But it seems hopeless to submit the same document and expect a different result.

Thanks for any advice...

My fiance had his medical done before the embassy even received our case.  He had called the doctor and they said he needed his blood tests etc first, and he called the lab and they said he didn't need an appointment so he just went as a walk-in.  Once he had the lab results he called the doctor and they said he could go in the next day.  I gave him the NVC case #, but I don't think they asked for it.

Your wife's birth cert looks just like my fiance's did.  Maybe this time ask if they can staple the receipt to the back of the page, they did it that way for my fiance's certificate of civil status.

Thanks for the response, it must be the receipts....i don't know what else could be different. We finally got a rejection through CEAC: "Please replace this with an acceptable birth certificate. Please use our Document Finder at https://nvc.state.gov/find for acceptable documents guidelines." Useless.

My wife has tried to call the embassy with no luck.  She is going to pick up a new copy of the birth cert tomorrow tomorrow and we'll just have to re-submit and see....

Hello!

I've read in a couple of places that sometimes the american citizen flies to CR to be here for the embassy interview. Is this a requirement? is it advisable? Do you go into the interview with your couple? ; do they ask your couple questions? or is it just for support?.

Thank you and good luck to everyone!

As far as I know, it is allowed.  It is never a requirement for the spouse or fiance to attend, but I know that CR does like to see both there and I will be going.  I think that the majority of the interview will be directed at the beneficiary.  Hopefully someone who has recently interviewed can shed light on that because I am in the NVC stage now awaiting interview.  Good luck!!!
