Good morning my friend - I hoped you might could help me with a couple more questions I have while we are gathering all required documents.

1. I downloaded a certified copy of his birth certificate from https://www.consulta.tse.go.cr/appcdi#/tienda - I also have a friend who is fluent in Spanish and English and is also able to translate the document.  Is it okay to just print this out for Luis (beneficiary) to take when the time comes for his appointment?  Of course when I file online in August (after our wedding and we get our marriage certificate in a few months) so I can just upload both the certified copy from the website with the translation.

2.  Where do I need to have Luis go to obtain his police record?  I am not finding anything definitive as to where we can obtain that.  And should we wait until after we are married to worry about getting that document?  He does not have any record as far as I know, LOL.

Thank you so much in advance.  I feel like I am asking so many questions and am so thankful for this group.  I am learning so much - even better than using a lawyer to do all this for us!  🙂

You have to go to the Registro Judicial and ask for a Delincuency Record for International Affairs. I went and they made me comeback the next day to pick it up so they might do the same to your fiancé.

This is the link to the Registro Judicial.

As far as I know there's no way to get it digitally because it comes with a wet signature and a bunch of stamps, it has 3 pages instead of just one like the normal one.

Hello, yes to both. You need the official signatures on the criminal record at their building. Printing it online is not enough. You can ask for the document online though and they will have it ready for pick up during the time frame they give you. And you will also need an official and certified translation of the documents. You can find a list of official translators at the cancillería´s webpage.

The documents you need to bring are indicated on the official documentation they sent you.

Just to clarify - with the birth certificate - the certified copy that you can get online from consulta.tse.go.cr will not suffice as a certified copy of a Costa Ricans birth certificate?

I cant specifically comment on CR Birth certificate but I assume it is the same as CR Marriage License which we had to submit.  The online certified copy alone is not sufficient.  It must also be stamped and signed as a certified copy by a TSE Registro Civil official.

Ah ok!  I figured that is probably the case - of course it could not be as easy as downloading online, haha.  Thank you for your reply!

Does anyone know how long it’s taking the Costa Rica embassy to schedule an interview after DQ?

I think this member earlier this year must have almost set the record for about the fastest CR-1 visa ever through the US Embassy in Costa Rica.

Has anyone here started applying for their Costa Rican Residency?  I know this is for the other way around but, just curious how that will be.

I was going to apply in January but I called to make an appointment and the earliest appointment wasn’t until March 23rd, and I wasn’t able to make that date.

I will advise you, you have to make a separate appointment to have your fingerprints taken and there is an online system to make that appointment.  They release a few dates at a time, usually every day at 12:00am Costa Rica time, so that’s the best time to check to get availability.  I struggled for two weeks to get an appointment—I would input all the information, select an available appointment and submit, but it kept giving me an error message saying that the appointment wasn’t scheduled, without saying what the problem was.  I finally figured out that even though the ‘Second Surname’ field was not marked as mandatory on the form, it wasn’t accepting the submission when I left it blank.  I don’t have a second surname, but I finally tried just typing in ‘ninguno’ (none), and it accepted my submission that way.  They didn’t say anything about it to me when I went to the appointment, so it seems to have worked okay.

I’m about to start gathering the paperwork together again to try again at the end of the year.

Hello! My visa status on US Travel Docs says Passport has been received from the consular section, and is currently being processed for delivery since yesterday, I haven't received a notification to pick up my K1 packet yet, is there any way I could get the tracking number so I can check with Correos if they have it? When I call they say they can't help just by ID number or name.

Is there a forum topic for Costa Rica filers waiting for an embassy interview date?

We submitted and paid all documents to NVC for my stepdaughter (husbands daughter) in July 2021 and still no communication on an interview date. NVC hotline hasn't really been helpful.

I’ve been also waiting for an interview since June, the embassy just told us there is a back log and we have to wait.

Hey all, an update to my most recent post up there...

NVC had rejected a few documents and ask that I resubmit them. They also asked for a few more that I did not provide the first time around (was not asked to initially).

The main issue is my stepdaughter's birth certificate - they think it was a bad scan. I think it may be a code on the bottom right of the document that is hard to read. However, I just learned that the birth certificates are all digital deliveries now - and when I go to buy a new birth certificate, the PDF attachment that is sent from the Costa Rican government's system has bad resolution for that small code, from the start. It was not altered - the resolution just makes it nearly impossible to read. The customer service at NVC said it was a bad scan (and also told me to get a certified translation) so now I'm wondering what do I do - because I have a feeling they will come back to me again for the same exact issue, and I'm not sure how to explain or resolve it if the government's digital delivery is so low-resolution that even I can barely read it (I CAN read it and translate it but it's pretty hard and took me a few times of staring at the document to figure it out...)

Anyone else having trouble at NVC for something similar? Should I call NVC, submit an explanation when i get the chance, or do something else... ?
