Hey guys, couldn't find this topic here :(

question is: We have applied for the K1 visa, and we are still waiting for the NOA 2, NOA1 was received on feb 27.

Would it be okay to have a joint bank account now? so whenever we apply for AOS, we already have enough monthly statements to send them.

I've read that people are getting RFE's due to not enough statements sent. Thankss!! 😃

Sorry, I made a mistake with the post and it posted without me finishing.

Both, I want to get a bank account for the beneficiary (me) and then another account for both my fiancé and I can use for any expenses, so we could use that evidence.

Thanks.

Not sure you as the beneficiary, without a SSN are going to be able to get a US bank account. Nor would the USC be able to add unless you had perhaps an ITN number but that's for people who are spouses, not fiances.

You can check online to some US banks but don't know how many of them would allow it, especially with you not even being present in the US physically; but perhaps some other members have found a way.....

That kind of' evidence' is better served later for the AOS in the US anyways.

No ITIN or SSN needed if the beneficiary will be added to the joint account that the primary account holder is the US Citizen. However the beneficiary need to be in US physically and go to bank with the account holder.

I had it way before our K1 was approved.

Understood. Fortunately I am in the US currently on a B2 visa visiting my fiancé and his family. My fiancé called the local US Bank branch and they said all they needed was the foreign passport and ID, both of which I have. We were planning on filing for AOS once I got my SSN after we were married, so was concerned we wouldn't have enough statements (maybe one or two) and thought that wouldn't be enough for proof and possibly risk an RFE.

Do you think USCIS would frown upon me having an account in my name in the USA (even if it is a joint account) being here on a B2 visa?

You do not need to give your bank statements for any stage in K1 anyway. I just wanted a bank account so I could send and use my money without USCIS thinking I am sending my money to him. which would definitely look weird.... But I have my own card, I didn't lie to bank and bank knows I didnt live in US at the time etc. I also did not use my statements for K1 evidence but I sent them with AOS.

Oh okay! We had both discussed having a joint account for future savings and for the evidence for the AOS, we just wanted to get it early so we would have many months of statements. Thanks for the reply.

You can have a joint account at any time if the bank allows it without an SSN. My wife and I have had one for nearly two decades, yet we've only been married for over two years. We were happy to submit that as part of the evidence towards our relationship with every part of this process, so far.

Hey there,

My wife arrived with the K1 visa on august 21st to the US, 2 days later we opened a bank account for her and created a joint account for the both of us WITHOUT the need of a social security - for one of the biggest banking institutions out there of which I already had an account for 7+ years. Thus for the K1 process we did not have these statements with us, I only submitted my own statements for the i-134 documentation, and everything went fine!

Last friday we've mailed the AOS paperwork and on that one we've included the bank statements for the joint accounts.

I hope this gives you some extra info and insight for your process. Good luck!
