Hey everyone !

Well, my crossover yesterday went very smooth. They didn't even care about my 40 boxes of stuff and my itemized list of what I had in them and their approx value. Well at least everything is labeled for my own use when FI and I unpack everything.

The whole K1 activation process took about 30 minutes at the most. They asked for my passport of course and the big brown envelope (which they kept .. and am assuming will be sent to our local USCIS office). They took electronic finger prints of both my index photos (to make sure I was the same person that was interviewed in MTL). They also took my photo. And ....I GOT MY EAD STAMP and my I-94! I was soo happy. I didn't even have to ask for it .. it was automatic. They guy seemed a bit scary at first because his shift had just started and we were his first "clients" ... he was like "oh ####### ... a friggin K1 to start my day" .. but then he got really nice and funny. He did go over the whole AOS process with me and told me more than a few times that I CANNOT leave the US until I have my green card (which I already knew ...but he still was persistent in telling me ... lol). He also told me that I had to carry my passport on my at all times .. and that when I get my green card ... that also has to be on my person at ALL times. "ok!" I said happily. lol. Also ... there was no fee to activate the K1 .. so that was kind of nice :)

So I think that was about it. I was off to UPACK right after and now my 40 boxes of stuff may be somewhere in Iowa for all I know! lol. Who cares where they are .. I'm getting married in 4 days! And for real! a Real wedding! Breath. Sigh. Relief.

~linda

ps: and of course they did not want to see my XRAY ..... so i can finally leave good ol' mr xray at home now. ... or give it to my new family doctor.

Congrats!!! What we need for u lowly K1'ers is a seperate sticky on the top of the canada forum on which POE's hand out the EAD stamp. Congrats

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congrats! And funny that you did not have to pay the $6/7 activation fee (or whatever it is). Oh well - there's money towards your gas, lol.

The $6 fee is for the I-94, not activation of the K-1.

Congratulations - and enjoy the wedding!

Well if I had know I would have gone to detroit for the stamp....the Vet clinic next to my Hubby's job is looking for help lol

I was so sure I would get it at Sarnia.

One question thought, where did they say they would send your application ?? They asked us where mine was from, so I told them Nebraska Service Center. So they started searching for it in there computer for about 10 min, and the supervisor told to to send that to Chicago anyways. Then they guy asked me what about Lincoln? And yeah I remembered it was Lincoln, Nebraska. So I told him yeah thats it. But the supervisor said no send it to Chicago anyways thats where all applications are sent.....

DId I get screwed ?? I thought it was alright since we sent the AOS to CHicago anyways.....

Congrats on the wedding BTW!!!!
