Hey guys

Hoping for some advice. So originally, i thought it was only k1 fiance visas that book your own interviews and for cr1, it is just scheduled for you.

However, my friend has just booked their own interview at the embassy. I called NVC for some advice and they said to me that it wasn't possible, but obviously it has been done today, so that is conflicting.

It says you need to take your interview invitation letter with you for the interview but obviously if i booked it myself, i would only have confirmation of time and date and not an interview invitation so to speak. Is this a problem?

Obviously, If i can book my own interview then that would be ideal as the waiting around is not doing me any good. I have had my medical so i am just waiting.

To my knowledge CR1's get given their interview dates.

When you book online, anyone can create an account, but you have to go through steps that enables you to do this, so it's entirely possible your friend booked an interview by selecting the wrong steps before hand if that makes sense.

Yes I know what you mean, I would have to select steps to get through.

If this was done but I was still able to select any interview time and date do you know what would happen? Would the interview still take place etc?

I couldn't even fathom a guess to be honest with you. I booked the wrong interview first time round and had to cancel and reschedule the correct one, but I did that because I noticed I'd made the error.

My thoughts:

The immigration areas make up procedures they think are most efficient for them. When people start straying from the plan, it can make additional work to straighten out the business of those that were trying to make shortcuts.

So yes, I think you could have the correct information to create an account and book an appointment. The CR1s who do Direct Consular Filing do that. BUT NVC has your file. It needs to be in London. How soon is too soon? What if your file is not ready for interview? What domino effect does this have on the efficiency of the process?  I can imagine CR1s flocking to create an interview and the NVC doing the same. Will it allow NVC to book when another is in the system? Or will it hold up your case getting to London when they shove it aside to figure out later? Maybe one gets by, but what happens when 500 or 1000 start mucking with the plan?

I don't know a lot about the CR1 process timelines, but I see this big bunch of K1s lately who are clueless and all out of order because they followed what somebody from China in a K1 progress thread said to do rather than following the desired  most efficient procedure for London.  They are asking how to get out of a jam because they made up their own procedure and realized they created a mess. They find themselves unprepared for the medical/interview that they rushed to get.

Best advice is follow the outlined US government plan. If you want to make up your own procedure , then accept the hiccups that you hadn't foreseen.

Thank you very much for taking the time to type all this out.

Those were the exact same questions running through my mind when I was looking for advice. Especially, what if I there is already one booked into the system etc?

Oh dear, I hope those in the k1 pickle get that all sorted out. And yes, I could see why it would cause delays.

Thanks again

I have heard that if you don't have the letter from the NVC to say schedule your interview, that it can cause issues later on down the road.  The system that you book your appointment/interview with specifically asks if you have received your letter from the NVC, and if you continue on you are in a sense being deceitful and not honest if you have not gotten that letter.  I am going to call the Embassy to see what they say, but I would rather wait and not throw up any red flags.

Just my thoughts.
