What exactly is in the Packet 3?

Hi All,

What exactly is in the Packet 3?

I'm guessing it's marriage certificate, police certificate, birth certificate etc...

Do we have to send in a copy of the I-864 and all the enclosures (letter from job, tax, pay stubs etc) too? AND I-134?

for the Cr-1 or the K-3?

My IR1 is almost completed at NVC (maybe 1 more month to go?)

and my K-3 is at NVC, but probably will get to Montreal before the IR1...

forget the k-3.......it'll be 6 months or more sitting in Montreal before you get an interview and the IR-1 will override it anyway.

wait, are you saying that it's best to abandon K-3?

Does Montreal schedule IR1 interviews faster than they schedule K-3 interviews?

Or I read somewhere that NVC schedules IR1 interviews for Montreal?

If I want to forget about K-3, do I just write a letter to Montreal and tell them I wanna abandon the K-3, coz my IR1 is almost done being at NVC?

yes thats what Im saying.

after you send back your IV application, its about 2-3 weeks I think before the NVC completes its processing and send it to Montreal. They do schedule Montreal's appointments for those.Its easy to forget that by the time the IR-1 reaches the consulate , all the processing has pretty much been done.

Right now people are waiting up to and possibly more than 6 months from the time Montreal gets the approved petition to receive an interview.

When the consulate contacts you with your packet 3 , just hang onto it and dont send it back. See how it goes with your IR-1 at the NVC and if it completes quickly after sending back the packet. The IR-1 would override the k-3 at the consulate anyway. If theres a hangup timewise with the IR-1 then send packet 3 back for the K-3.

That's a great idea! Hopefully NVC doesn't schedule the interview like 6-7 months away from the day of NVC completion, right?

right off the top of my head Im thinking of 2 Cr-1'ers who were scheduled an interview within 2 months of their case complete date at the NVC.

Im not sure if I was clear regarding the 6 month wait .......thats for the k-3 once it reaches Montreal.

i thought a bit more on returning the packet3 stuff. what the heck , send it back. then if theres a glitch in your IR-1 for some freak reason, you'll have your place in line for the K-3. sending the checklist ds-156 and ds-230 wont hurt anything since when the IR-1 gets to the consulate , it'll cancel the k-3 and thats what you'll interview for.

That there just about made me jump out of my seat in excitement. Here I was thinking that I still had to do the whole 6 month waiting game at Montreal. Any idea why CR1's get interviews faster than K-3's? (Besides that NVC schedules them, it just seems mean to schedule them ahead of K3'ers who have been waiting longer.)

well basically because theyre 2 separate processes. i think people commonly mistake them as similar processes but really the k-3 has more in common process-wise with the k-1.

Definitely hold out for the CR-1/IR-1!
