NOA2 K1 NOA 2 I-797 Validity and Expiration date

I received my NOA 2 yesterday and I have some questions about the NOA expiration date.

My NOA 2 will expire on January 4th, 2019; however, due to some work related situations I am required to enter the US for a couple of days in January so I cannot have the K1 visa in January as I need to come back to Canada after my work trip. So I cannot send in my packet 3 info to the consulate too soon.

I could choose to fill out my DS-160 and send all the required packet 3 info to the consulate in late December but then my DS-160 will not be correct as it askes the last US entry date. I am thinking of filling out my DS-160 when I come back from the work trip in January but then my NOA 2 will expire by then.

Does anyone know how to extend the NOA2 or has experiences of doing that?

Thank you so much

Your best bet is just to schedule your interview as close to the expiration date as possible but not too close or your risk losing it. You can try asking USCIS to extend your petition approval but I’ve heard they don’t like that and it’s not always guaranteed that they will.

Why not too soon? The expiration date is the time until when you have the possibility to do the interview right?

It's going to take you 2-4 weeks from Ready to get the P3 from MTL. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actually one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they will send you P4. Then they ask you to register to schedule your interview and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards. Based on what I said you may not have your interview till Feb/Mar. Here is a copy of the P3 letter that you can reference till you receive the "official" copy (P.S. this is the official)

Packet 3: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf  And Packet 4 for reference also: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/03/Packet4-MTL.pdf

You can update the DS-160 at the interview as it is done all the time.

Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline or your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine your Embassy. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Thanks
