So I have a boyfriend in the USA and we want to live together, his parents want us to wait untill he is 21 before we apply for a k1 visa or spouse visa and they said in the meantime I should come on a work visa and then apply for the spouse visa after 2 years, my question is which work visa can I apply for? I have no qualifications or skills, do I need to find a job in the USA before I apply for the visa or after? Thanks

You would need to find a job before- work visas are given to people who have special skills that do jobs most Americans cannot do. If you have no specific skills why would an employer hire you and pay to sponsor you and not just hire a US worker? The work visas are usually given for engineers, physicians, people with much education and training.

You could try for a nanny/au pair visa if you were so inclined but that could be a gamble too.

Based on your previous thread you don't qualify for a work visa.

You either need education or skills. Work visas are NOT easy to get.

If you qualify for a work visa, then you can find an employer to petition you. As noted, these are not easy to come by so you should research the requirements.

My boyfriend's dad is like the manager of U-Haul and he said he could get me a job there and have me sponsored, and I've been researching but there's alot of different ones and I read there's only a limited amount of work visas that are given out per year

That will not work, as they would have to demonstrate that there are no Americans with the skills necessary to fill the position at the U-Haul.

Definitely a challenge...getting a job offer and getting an I-129 approval are very different things...the LCA would be the biggest hurdle IMO. But it's fine to ask him about it. Their company lawyer would be the one doing most of the work and be best to advise you if you would qualify.

Again, I refer you to the London US embassy site and reading about work visas.  There are five categories.  Four of them require specialized skills and/or education, and one requires a large amount of money and a business plan.   The premise of all sponsored work visas for the US is that the position cannot be filled with existing US labor.

Nope. Won't work. They can get UHaul workers among us citizens without an issue. Wonder if dad knows that work visa usually require a lawyer and a lot of money. Also USCIS have work visas very controlled and strict lately to avoid frauds.

Mmm...you’d be amazed at how companies pull this off.  Sometimes for personal reasons or more often for low labor costs.  They don’t have to prove no American citizen can do the job, just state no suitable candidate applied within a certain time frame.

I met my fiancé 5 years ago and I decided in 2015 I wanted to go over there to be with them, without getting married.... I went through an agency called Au Pair in America (there are many other companies that do this) and I worked as an Au Pair for 2 years. You can never guarantee that you will find a placement near your fiancé, but as mine was near NYC it took me about a week to find a family that was within about 15 miles from my fiancé. The pay isn’t great, and you won’t be able to live with your fiancé, but it worked well for me. You go over there on a J1 visa, and from the start of application to getting to the US it took me about 3 months. Once you are over there on a J1, if you were to decide to get married, you can, and then just file for adjustment of status. That was an option for us, but I’d already been there for 2 years and due to family ill-health, I decided to come back to England and then we file for a k1. If family health hadn’t been a concern, I would have totally just adjusted status.

I would speak with the Immigration LAwyer handling the case and find out which one they will be sponsoring you for.

Please let us know what they say.

I think a J1 is the only possible option for you OP
