Yes.  You can have a separate mailing address that's a PO Box.  You can also opt in to an electronic format after you receive your initial approval and receive everything via email.  Much better way to go.

It would have been better to have the PO box already open and mentioned on the applications since their systems aren't always updating the address right. It doesn't hurt to try to update the mailing address to a PO box now though.

I had a PO box during my entire N400 process and I always got my uscis mail there. At the interview she told me that my physical address was still the very first one from the first application and she didn't see any of the updates I had made online and in paper.

@bakphx1 how do you receive emails?

We have not receive any mail from immigration because we just submitted the application few days ago. But we don't want any mail from immigration to be missed that why I'm asking can we open a p.o. box before they send the first mail to us.

You can and should use the PO Box (for Mailing address) due to a rising of package thief, which leading to the lost of important documents such as green card, social card etc. not only important email.

You can also register your email to get the notification on case status sooner and safer.

After they process the initial form, you select an agent who receives your mail and that’s when you can provide the PO Box info.  You can be the agent but the mailing address can be different.  You’ll also provide your wife’s mailing address which can be the PO Box.  We used the electronic opt in and received everything by email and it helped to just make a separate file in my email for visa correspondence.  My husband got a P.O. box as well and never checked it.

You opt in after your initial petition is received and then you can opt in ( you still have to get the initial response from USCIS via mail).    Not every country is eligible, hoping you are.  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center/ceac-electronic-processing.html
