Visa Journey is generally accurate. Meaning that your timeline offers a fairly good estimate for when you can expect approval (assuming no RFE's). However it is, as stated, an estimate only. Some cases are approved quicker, some longer. Mine was a month and a half later than my VJ timeline estimated. So take it loosely.

The number of VJ users are just a small amount of the actual applicant numbers; but it can give you a solid idea and estimate of the time line. How specific it is can't be said. Each case is unique and each case is handled by different people at USCIS so it's tough to say. Other variables come into play like RFE's, the USCIS employee takes a sick day or vacation and you get stuck waiting...several things.
