Query regarding Birth Certificate

Looking at the website, they don’t mention anything other than birth certificate, which makes me think there is only one format.  Usually they’re more specific if a country has multiple formats and they only accept a specific format from a specific agency.  I didn’t see anything that made me think yours isn’t what they need.

Hi there!! i'm about to have my interview next week.

I have submitted my Italian birth certificate with English translation and it has been accepted by USCIS and NVC..HOWEVER!!!!...Today double checking the checklist i've got for my interview (keep in mind, i've been over stressing like crazy) i found out..or better yet, read and REALISED that about Birth certificates it says the following :

  • BIRTH CERTIFICATES: Each applicant must present an original or a notarized copy of his or her birth certificate. The date and place of birth, parents’ names, and date the birth was registered must be included. We donot accept ‘short form’ birth certificates as they are not official extracts from government records. Applicants who present birth certificates issued more than two years after their birth (including corrected birth certificates) should be prepared to provide additional documentation of their birth, including baptismal certificates and/or the original birth certificate.

Now..I have 2 different birth certificates and the one i've submitted does not have my parents name but yet USCIS & NVC have not rejected it...

I feel silly but grateful at the same time because "i've realised on time" about my mistake, so i'm getting it translated asap before my interview day.

I don't think you will get a RFE..at the end of the day you have what they're asking for, however i could be an example i guess..that they also make mistakes so it's up to us to double, triple check, whatever it is that we have all of our documents on the best possible correct way as instructed by Travel.State.gov

...Good luck and do not worry ;)

I wouldn't know what to tell you honestly, i got confused on that bit as well but i don't think it's too much of a big deal to be honest ..perhaps ask someone who's had their interviews in your embassy to be sure and all correct documents to present

This must be a country specific thing to Colombia. My entire family had to get new birth certificates to get acceptable long form ones, all over 2 years from birth obviously and had no extra issues. You need to focus on what the reciprocity pages say for India

Not offical identification documents so useless, but in any case not needed in your case.

I think you should be fine. Your's looks waaaaay better than my husband's and he didn't have any issues with it during his K1 visa process/interview. His didn't even have his name properly identified cus' his name wasn't decided at the time of his birth certificate being issued. So it just had the date, his parents name, and then his first name written in pen on the top. I think a lot of stuff was handwritten actually. It's also in really bad quality - ripped on the ends and discolored. I think the embassy is used to seeing birth certificate's that aren't perfect, especially in births from small towns.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man.... Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

you're welcome! I remember the packet 3 instructions mentioning to bring birth certificate and it also gave alternatives if one wasn't available. such as: school leaving docs that show DOB, signed affidavit from parent swearing they were present on your birth. So if you're really worried you can have one or both of those as back-up. We had all of my husband's school docs as back-up just in case, but they never asked for them at the embassy. :)
