First time I've heard of this guy.. but the statements in that article send chills up and down my spine.. It's not the God that I know.
The comments that his daughter made after the VATech shootings (that none of those who died at Cho's hand was a "true" Christian) shows he probably never read his Bible in the first place--basically, an utra-version of the "prosperity gospel" that Christians can never have troubles.

(in reality, the Bible states exactly the opposite--that troubles WILL come, and that the Christian should turn to God to get through).

Read this guys Wikipedia entry.. HOLY he needs a whole topic all to himself! ;)

It sounds like the 70 people or so are all relations.. amazing what a little indoctrinating can do.. twist the words of God into lies.. Or give Him credit for things He never did.. or deny things that He did and say it was brought about by other things.. Both of which are my definition of heresy.

Louis Theroux from the BBC made a really good documentary about the Phelps called "The Most Hated Family in America". If you run across it, definitely watch it. It's a real eye-opener.

Yep, Mr. Phelps and crew are some really twisted people. They were in Tulsa and picketing my church the day we got married -- made us very glad that we arranged to have our ceremony somewhere else. :wacko:

The church is huge, we were going to have 20 people at the wedding, so we wanted a smaller, more intimate location. We found a lovely mansion that met our needs wonderfully. It was the week or so before the date when we found out the Phelps crew were going to be in town. We were glad we didn't have to deal with that on our wedding day!

Our minister was a little frazzled from having to deal with the situation, but it went well.

According to Phelpsian logic, the following were NOT true Christians:

  1. Thomas (apostle)--murdered by "high-caste" Triplicane Hindus
  2. Paul (apostle, formerly persecutor)--beheaded on Nero's orders
  3. William Tyndale (started translating Bible to European vernaculars)--burned at stake
  4. William Carey--suffered many losses (including once, entire print inventory), one wife went mad
  5. Watchman Nee--imprisoned and tortured under Mao's regime
  6. Graham Stuart Staines--murdered by RSS/VHP/BJP touts

Sounds a lot more like theology one would associate with Richard Butler (Idaho, "Aryan Nations") or Terry Long (Caroline, AB version of Butler).
